Procedure And General Requirements For Testing

Information

Information 

• If the specified setpoint values are not reached, the air conditioning must be checked for leaks and repaired. 

Information 

• Ambient temperature must be between 15 and 40 degrees Celsius. 
• Check condensed water drain tubes: Must not be blocked by wax or underbody protection or otherwise dirty. Condensate must be able to drain away freely. 
• Check fresh-air intake system: Water must not be allowed to run into the air conditioner. Must be completely dirt-free. 
• Check that there is sufficient ventilation in the outside-temperature sensor area. 
• Check particle filter: Must be dry and not excessively dirty. 
• Condenser must be dirt-free. 

Information 

• All components of the air conditioning that are relevant for diagnosis are checked. 
• Only the cooling output for the passenger compartment is checked during this function test. 

1. Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester.

   Information 

   The terms "Ignition on" and "Starting engine" are re-defined for fully electric vehicles (battery electric vehicles - BEV).

   Establishing operational readiness/Ignition on: 

   Prerequisites for establishing operational readiness: High-voltage battery is sufficiently charged, remove vehicle charging cable from the vehicle charge port, put driver's key in the emergency start tray.

   Establishing operational readiness automatically: Get into the vehicle and close the driver's door. The driver's key is recognized inside the vehicle. Operational readiness is established.

   Establishing operational readiness manually: Press Start/Stop switch. The driver's key is recognized inside the vehicle. Operational readiness is established.

   Establishing operational readiness/Starting engine: 

   Establish operational readiness and engage transmission range. The vehicle is now ready to drive and can be moved.

   Ending operational readiness/Switching off ignition 

   Ending operational readiness automatically: Get out of the vehicle with the driver's key and close the driver door. The driver's key is no longer detected outside the vehicle. Operational readiness ends.

   Ending operational readiness manually: Press Start/Stop switch until the instrument cluster is switched off.

   Ending driving readiness/Stopping engine 

   Vehicle is stationary: Press the P  button on the instrument cluster. The vehicle is parked.

2. Establish operational readiness/switch on ignition.
3. Close windows and doors.
4. Switch on the air conditioning in the vehicle and set the passenger compartment temperature to 22 degrees Celsius  .
5. Start diagnostics.
6. Select Air conditioning control unit  .
7. Select Maintenance/repairs  .
8. Select Check passenger compartment cooling output  .
9. Follow the instructions on the PIWIS Tester.
10. If no fault was detected and if the cooling output in the passenger compartment is still too low, then continue with the Service Information Checking air conditioning (fault finding)
