Setup overview

WARNING: Incorrect handling of high-voltage components
  • Electric shock
  • Risk of short circuit
  • Risk of fire
  • Risk of explosion

    → Only appropriately trained and authorized persons are permitted to work on high-voltage vehicles and components.

    → Required qualification: High voltage expert.

    → Observe national requirements and legislation for this work.

    → Always use insulated tools, e.g. > VAS 6883 - Insulated tool set  , when working on these components.

    → Observe general warning notes for working on the high-voltage vehicle electrical system.

Information 

Adapt for each new cell module! New cell modules have a state of charge of 30%.

The instructions in the Tester  take precedence, since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in the Tester  .

Information 

The difference in voltage between the module and the existing modules can be max. 0.3 V.

  1. > VAS 6910 - Module balancer  and Tester set up.

    Read and follow the instructions for the module balancer.

  2. Switch on Tester and module balancer. Select Measuring equipment  menu.
    1. 2.1  Select Measurement program  .
    2. 2.2 High-voltage system  must be selected.
  3. Switch on module balancer.
  4. Select Module balancing  .
    1. 4.1 Self-test  must be selected.
      1. 4.1.1  Perform self-test according to menu guidance.

        Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.

    2. 4.2 Safety test  must be selected.
      1. 4.2.1  Perform safety test according to menu guidance.

        Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.

    3. 4.3  Insert cell module into the module balancer.
    4. 4.4  Check polarity of the cell module.
    5. 4.5  Select Charge/Discharge  on the Tester.

      Enter the necessary data.

      Enter data for selecting the cell module: Module type (e.g. 9J1.915, etc.), serial number (label on the cell module), setpoint voltage (read out of test log or measure voltage manually on the module).

      Follow the instructions on the Tester.

      Module balancer setup

      1. 4.5.1  Connect red  > VAS 6910/12B-1 - connecting cable  to HV +  for the cell module.
      2. 4.5.2  Connect red  > VAS 6910/12B-1 - connecting cable  to HV +  for the > VAS 6910 - module balancer  .
      3. 4.5.3  Connect black  > VAS 6910/12B-2 - connecting cable  to HV-  of the cell module.
      4. 4.5.4  Connect black  > VAS 6910/12B-2 - connecting cable  to HV-  of the > VAS 6910 - module balancer  .
      5. 4.5.5  Connect cell monitoring cable (CAN) > VAS 6910/19 - connecting line  with the > VAS 6910 -module balancer  .
      6. 4.5.6  Connect electric plug connection > VAS 6910/19 - for the module monitoring cable (CAN) connecting cable  to the cell module.
    6. 4.6  Once the cell module has been charged/discharged successfully, follow the instructions on the Tester.
    7. 4.7  Print the log and file it in the order folder.
