Removing E-Box

WARNING: Incorrect handling of high-voltage components 
  • Electric shock 
  • Short circuit

    → Only appropriately trained and authorized persons are permitted to work on high-voltage vehicles and components.

    → Required qualification: High voltage technician or high voltage expert.

    → Observe national requirements and legislation for this work.

    → Always use insulated tools, e.g. > VAS 6883 - Insulated Tool Set  when working on these components. Observe general warning notes for working on the high-voltage system.

Handling high-voltage lines:

  1. Detach and pull off high-voltage line from E-box to electric motor at the rear.

  2. Unscrew screws securing E-box to high-voltage battery.

  3. Fit > 9924 - centering pins  on E-box -Arrows-  .

  4. Discharge capacitive voltage.
    1. 4.1  Connect test clamp to the E-box housing.

    2. 4.2  Connect test clamp to potential equalization line for high-voltage battery.

    3. 4.3  Connect both test clamps using a test cable from the > 9684 - measurement tool set  .
  5. Guide > T10588 - tensioning strap  under the E-box.

  6. > T10588 - Tensioning straps  must be secured to > 3033 - suspending device  and > VAS 6100 - workshop crane  .

    Check that the center of gravity is neutral.

  7. Carefully lift the E-box up and off using > VAS 6100 - workshop crane  .
  8. Remove test clamps and test cable.
  9. Uncover electric connections for E-box on the high-voltage battery. > VAS 6762/47 - End caps

    Information 

    Install the E-box again quickly as the high-voltage contacts on the high-voltage battery are open following removal.
