Measurement 13

WARNING: Incorrect handling of high-voltage components 
  • Electric shock 
  • Short circuit 
  • Fire 
  • Explosion 

    → Only appropriately trained and authorised persons are permitted to work on high-voltage vehicles and components.

    → Required qualification: High voltage technician or high voltage expert.

    → Observe national requirements and legislation for this work.

    → Always use insulated tools, e.g. > VAS 6883 - Insulated Tool Set  when working on these components.

    → Observe general warning notes for working on the high-voltage system.

Preliminary work for measurement 13 

(Check: New traction line)

  1. Order new traction line (Part No. 9J1 971 015 B) from the PET spare parts information.
  2. Connect high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/38 - HV test adapter  to new traction line.

  3. Perform measurement 13.
    1. 3.1 Setpoint value ≥ 1 GOhm 
  4. Evaluate measured result 
    1. 4.1 If the measured value is within  the tolerance range, continue with measurement 13.1  .
    2. 4.2 If the measured value is outside  of the tolerance range, contact Technical Support.

    (Check: Test rear power electronics and rear electric motor with connected and tested traction lines)

  5. Guide one end of the new traction line through the opening in the luggage compartment floor and connect it to the rear power electronics.

  6. Leave the other end of the new traction line sticking out of the opening in the luggage compartment floor.
  7. Connect high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/38 - HV test adapter  to the new traction line (rear power electronics).

    Measurement 13.1

  8. Perform measurement 13.1.
    1. 8.1 Setpoint value ≥ 5 MOhm 
  9. Evaluate measured result 
    1. 9.1 If the measured value is within  the tolerance range, contact Technical Support.
    2. 9.2 If the measured value is outside  of the tolerance range, continue with measurement 13.2  .

    (Check: Rear power electronics with connected and new tested traction line)

  10. Remove rear electric motor and rear power electronics.

  11. Remove cover for rear electric motor.

  12. Remove 3-phase line power track from rear power electronics to rear electric motor.

  13. Disconnect CAN lines from the power electronics.

    Electric connectors

    1. 13.1 Using a small screwdriver, release the electric connectors -1-  and -2- carefully  (-a-  ) and pull them out of the connector housing. Important: The connector holders can break easily.
  14. Connect new traction line and high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/38 - HV test adapter  to the rear power electronics.

    Measurement 13.2

  15. Perform measurement 13.2.
    1. 15.1 Setpoint value ≥ 5 MOhm 
  16. Evaluate measured result 
    1. 16.1 If the measured value is within  the tolerance range, continue with measurement 13.3  .
    2. 16.2 If the measured value is outside  of the tolerance range, replace the rear power electronics.

    When replacing the rear power electronics, read and follow the work instructions in the Service Information.

    After replacing the rear power electronics, repeat measurement 13.1.

    (Check: Rear electric motor)

  17. Place test probes on terminal shoes of the 3-phase line and measure the resistance to the electric motor housing.

    Measure all 3-phase lines individually.

  18. Perform measurement 13.3.
    1. 18.1 Setpoint value ≥ 5 MOhm 
  19. Evaluate measured result 
    1. 19.1 If the measured value is within  the tolerance range, contact Technical Support.
    2. 19.2 If the measured value is outside  of the tolerance range, replace rear electric motor.

When replacing the rear electric motor, read and follow the work instructions in the Service Information.

> 279219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ELECTRIC MOTOR

After replacing the rear electric motor, repeat measurement 13.1.
