Bleeding The Cooling System

Information 

The terms "Ignition on" and "Starting engine" are re-defined for fully electric vehicles (battery electric vehicles - BEV).

Establishing operational readiness/Ignition on: 

Prerequisites for establishing operational readiness: High-voltage battery is sufficiently charged, remove vehicle charging cable from the vehicle charge port, put driver's key in the emergency start tray.

Establishing operational readiness automatically: Get into the vehicle and close the driver's door. The driver's key is recognized inside the vehicle. Operational readiness is established.

Establishing operational readiness manually: Press Start/Stop switch. The driver's key is recognized inside the vehicle. Operational readiness is established.

Establishing operational readiness/Starting engine: 

Establish operational readiness and engage transmission range. The vehicle is now ready to drive and can be moved.

Ending operational readiness/Switching off ignition 

Ending operational readiness automatically: Get out of the vehicle with the driver's key and close the driver door. The driver's key is no longer detected outside the vehicle. Operational readiness ends.

Ending operational readiness manually: Press Start/Stop switch until the instrument cluster is switched off.

Ending driving readiness/Stopping engine 

Vehicle is stationary: Press the P  button on the instrument cluster. The vehicle is parked.

Information 

The instructions in the PIWIS Tester  take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the instructions that must be followed. A discrepancy may arise with later software versions.

If the > VAS 6096/2 - vacuum pump  is used when filling the cooling system, the bleeding process must be performed twice.

If the > VAS 531 011 - cooling system service unit  is used when filling the cooling system, the bleeding process must be performed once.

1. Generate pressure in the cooling system at the coolant reservoir.
   1. 1.1  The servicing equipment builds up pressure in the cooling system > VAS 531 011 - Cooling system servicing equipment  .
   2. 1.2  Enter the test pressure > Pressure 1800 mbar  .
2. Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and start it.
3. Establish operational readiness/switch on ignition.
4. Start the diagnostic software.
5. Select Thermal management  control unit.
6. Select the Maintenance/repairs  menu.
7. Select the Thermal management/Bleed cooling systems  function with F12.
8. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
9. Check the fault memory and clear it if necessary.
10. Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir and correct it if necessary.

    Only check the coolant level when the coolant temperature is at least 15° Celsius  .

    1. 10.1  The correct coolant level is reached when the coolant is at the lower edge -Arrow-  of the filler neck -1-
