Preliminary Work

Information 

• When removing and installing axle or suspension components, the threaded connections must be tightened with the vehicle in the zero position  .
• To do this, the air on the relevant axle or air component must be released beforehand at the front and rear axle on vehicles with air suspension  .
• For this purpose, use the relevant functions on the PIWIS Tester  .

1. Raising the vehicle.

   > Refer to 4X00IN Raising the vehicle in the appropriate service information.

2. Only for vehicles with air suspension system:  Release air from the levelling system.

3. Remove rear wheel.

   > 440519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WHEEL

4. Remove wheel housing liner.

   > 536919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER - on "Removing"

5. Remove cover.

   > 427819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER  - section on "Removing"

6. Loosen upper air suspension bellows from the body mounting point and fix plastic wedge between air suspension bellows and body.
