Disassembling Front Spring Strut

WARNING: Preloaded or pressurised components
  • Risk of squashing or bruising

    → Do not reach into the danger area.

    → Relieve tension on components before starting work.

    → Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.

Information 

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:

Information 

  1. Unclip cable guide -1-  and unpin and remove connector housing -2-  .

    PASM cable plug

  2. Looser supporting mount -1-  .
    1. 2.1  Clamp front spring strut in > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device-2-  in such a way that the mounting plates of the spring tensioning device are positioned on the spring strut supporting mount.
    2. 2.2  Pre-tension front spring strut using > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device-2-  until the piston rod -3-  is relieved.
    3. 2.3  Unscrew nut -4-  with > T10001 - shock absorber set  or ring wrench (angled), while countering against the hexagon of the piston rod -3-  .

  3. Relieve tension on front spring strut using > VAS 6908 - spring tensioning device  until there is no tension on the coil spring.
  4. Remove components -1 to 7-  from shock absorber strut.

    Supporting mount
    Support washer
    Rubber stops
    Protective sleeve
    Insert
    Upper spring plate
    Coil spring

    Information 

    Do not damage/scratch the shock absorber pipe and piston rod.

  5. Remote lower spring plate -1-  .
    1. 5.1  Carefully remove the shock absorber cap -2-  from the shock absorber using a plastic hammer.

      Make sure not to damage or scratch the shock absorber pipe and piston rod.

    2. 5.2  Remove lower spring plate -1-  .
