Installing Front Wheel Bearing Housing

Information 

The help of another person is required.

Information 

• Lubricate the drive shaft splines all the way around with Molub Alloy Paste TA  .
• The thread must be free of grease  .

1. Install front wheel bearing housing -1-  .
   1. 1.1  Grease the drive shaft.
   2. 1.2  Position front wheel bearing housing -1-  .
   3. 1.3 For vehicles with all-wheel drive:  Position front drive shaft -5-  in the wheel bearing housing -1-  .
   4. 1.4  Insert upper trailing arm -4-  in front wheel bearing housing -1-  .
   5. 1.5  Insert new  screw -3-  .
   6. 1.6  Fit and tighten new  nut -2-  and counter the screw -3-  .

      > Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ftlb.) 

      > Torque angle + 45 °

2. Secure drive shaft -1-  to wheel hub -2-  .
3. 2.1  Position new  nut on drive shaft -3-  and tighten finger-tight.

   WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 

   • Risk of crushing 
   • Risk of damage to components 
     • Wear personal protective gear.
     • Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

   Information 

   Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

4. Position lower trailing arm -1-  in front wheel bearing housing -2-  and fit nut -3-  .

5. Tighten nut -3-  .

   > Tightening torque 130 Nm (96 ftlb.)

   CAUTION: Electrically moved components 

   • Danger of limbs being trapped 
     • Switch off electric power to drive motor.
     • Make sure it does not switch on again.
     • Check that there is no electric charge.

   Information 

   Once PDCC is ready for operation, chassis adjustments can be made. To avoid injury/crushing, only work near the anti-roll bar, lower trailing arms and bellows of the steering gear without establishing operational readiness and always allow for the run-on time of 60 seconds.

6. Secure tie-rod ball -1-  to front wheel bearing housing -2-  .
   1. 5.1  Position tie-rod ball -1-  in front wheel bearing housing -2- 
   2. 5.2  Fit and tighten nut -3-  .

      > Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)

7. Install wire harness holder -1-  .
   1. 6.1  Position wire harness holder -1-  together with the wire harness -5-  .
   2. 6.2  Fit and tighten screw -4-  .

      > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.) 

   3. 6.3  Fit and tighten screw -3-  .

      > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.) 

   4. 6.4  Connect and lock electric plug connection -2-  .

8. Install front brake cover plate -1-  .
   1. 7.1  Position front brake cover plate -1-  .
   2. 7.2  Fit and tighten screws -2-  .

      > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
