Replacing Brake Fluid
- Poisonous if swallowed!
- Irritation and damage to skin
- Avoid contact with paint surfaces
→ Store brake fluid in suitable, labelled containers only
→ Wear protective gloves and goggles
→ In the event of contact (eyes or skin), wash immediately with water
→ In the event of contact with paint surfaces, wash off immediately with water - do not wipe off
Information
- Observe the brake fluid quality. Only use new DOT4 brake fluid (Hydraulan 404).
- Brake fluid can be ordered using the Spare Parts Information (PET).
- There are two bleeder valves on the brake calliper. Brake fluid must be drained at both bleeder valves. Observe the sequence: Bleed the outer bleeder valve first.
- Unscrew cap on the brake fluid reservoir -1-
.

- Tighten adapter on brake fluid reservoir hand-tight.
- > VAS 6860 - Brake filling and bleeding device must be connected to adapter.
- Switch on > VAS 6860 - brake filling and bleeding equipment
. Set the bleeding pressure to 2 bar.
Information
Use a transparent hose and a collecting bottle to check the escaping brake fluid for cleanliness, absence of air bubbles and to determine the amount of brake fluid used.
- Change the brake fluid.
- 5.1 Push collecting bottle hose onto the rear right bleeder valve.
- 5.2 Open bleeder valve on the brake calliper.
- 5.3 Leave the bleeder valve open until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges. Then, close the bleeder valve.
- 5.4 Remove breather hose.
- 5.5 Repeat the procedure on all bleeder valves on the brake callipers in the sequence rear right/rear left/front right/front left.
- 5.6
Tighten bleeder valve.
Front bleeder valves (grey cast iron/PSCB):
> Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.)
Front bleeder valves (PCCB):
> Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
Rear bleeder valves (grey cast iron/PSCB):
> Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.)
Rear bleeder valves (PCCB):
> Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
- Switch off > VAS 6860 - brake filling and bleeding equipment and disconnect from the adapter.
- Unscrew adapter on brake fluid reservoir.
- Visually check the brake fluid level and correct, if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX markings -1-
.

- 8.1 Correct the fluid level as required if necessary.
- Tighten cap -1-
by hand.
