Calibrating The Levelling System

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Irreparable damage to control unit
  • Damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding

→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

→ Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

  1. Drive the vehicle (full fuel tank with tyre repair kit or spare wheel and tools) tension-free onto the wheel-alignment stand, ensuring that axle components are not under tension by moving the vehicle forward and backward several times if necessary.
  2. Place front wheels on turntable and rear wheels on rotary/sliding plates. The sliding base and turntable must not be at the end stop.
  3. Check angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment (e.g. through a bent linkage or holder). In the event of damage, replace the relevant angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment

    > WM, 947819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT ANGLE SENSOR FOR HEADLIGHT BEAM ADJUSTMENT (HBA)

    > WM, 947919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR ANGLE SENSOR FOR HEADLIGHT BEAM ADJUSTMENT (HBA)

  4. Remove hub caps -1-  from all four wheels using > 9229/1 - puller hook  .

    Information

Contact surfaces of the wheel hub bore -1-  must be clean and smooth. Even minor debris in the wheel hub bore can result in incorrect measurements.

    Wheel hub bore

  5. > VAS 6918 - Quick-Clamping Unit  in the wheel hub bores on all four wheels.
  6. > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3  must be connected to the vehicle before starting the Tester. Switch on ignition.
  7. Apply the electric parking brake.
  8. Close or lock doors and rear lid.
  9. Erase  the fault memory.

Using > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3  , select Chassis control > Fault memory > Erase fault memory

If faults are still present after erasing the fault memory, these must be corrected first.

  10. Height sensor calibration  must be performed: Using > 9900 - PI WIS Tester 3  , select Chassis control > Maintenance/repairs > Commissioning > Height sensor calibration.
    1. 10.1 Determine the actual value for the height of the vehicle body at the measuring points.
      1. 10.1.1 When determining the height of the vehicle body, the height is measured from the lower edge of the wing to the upper edge of the measured-value pickup, dimension X.
      2. 10.1.2 Then add the radius  of the measured-value pickup 32.5 mm  to this measured dimension X.

        Sample calculation:

        Measured dimension X = 382 mm; measured-value pickup radius = 32.5 mm

+ measured-value pickup radius  = vehicle body height

        382 mm + 32.5 mm = 414.5 mm

    2. 10.2 Enter the determined values in the Porsche System Tester.

If an implausible value is entered (actual value is not accepted by Porsche System Tester), please refer to the information under: "Procedure: Measured actual value is not accepted".
