Adjusting And Calibrating Parking-Brake Shoes

Information 

After checking the brakes, it may be necessary to fine-tune the adjustment device.

  1. Raise the vehicle.

    > 4X00IN LIFTING THE VEHICLE

  2. Remove wheels.

    > WM, 440519 REMOVING AND FITTING WHEEL

  3. Unscrew and remove screw plug -1-  on the relevant brake disc.

    Information 

    In the event of unfavorable tolerances, the brake pads may prevent the brake disc from turning freely! In this case, carefully and evenly press the brake pads back slightly.

  4. Release the EPB so that the wheels and brake discs can turn freely.
  5. Adjust the parking brake using > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3. 
    1. 5.1 Select 'Control unit overview'  → 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  and press F12 to confirm.
    2. 5.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs'  → 'Adjust parking brake'  and start the procedure.
  6. Adjust the brake shoes on both rear wheels.
    1. 6.1 Turn the relevant rear wheel with the opening to the adjustment device position.

      Information 

      The subsequent torque of the rear wheel must be greater than 100 Nm (74 ftlb.).

    2. 6.2 Using a screwdriver, adjust the adjustment device until the rear wheel can no longer be turned.

      Information 

      The rear wheels must turn freely.

    3. 6.3 Then, loosen by 14 (+/- 1) clicks of the adjustment device.

    Information 

    A calculated value in the positive range means: Turn adjusting screw in direction A - loosen.

    A calculated value in the negative range means: Turn adjusting screw in direction B - tighten.

  7. Re-adjust the adjustment device in accordance with the instructions on > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3  if necessary > Adjustment value 0.15 mm Corresponds to 1 click on the adjustment device

  8. Fit rear wheels.

    > WM, 440519 REMOVING AND FITTING WHEEL

  9. Grind down parking brake using > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3. 
    1. 9.1 Select 'Control unit overview'  → 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  and press F12 to confirm.
    2. 9.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs'  → 'Grind down parking brake'  and start the procedure.
  10. Calibrate the parking brake using > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3. 
    1. 10.1 Select 'Control unit overview'  → 'Porsche Stability Management (PSM)'  and press F12 to confirm.
    2. 10.2 Select 'Maintenance/repairs'  → 'Calibrate parking brake'  and start the procedure.
  11. Actuate the EPB actuator several times and check that the actuators open and close properly on both sides.
  12. Position brake pads by pressing the brake several times.
  13. Fit and tighten screw plug -1-  .

    > Tightening torque 15 Nm (11 ftlb.)

  14. Mount wheels.
