Removing Front Axle Carrier: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Only for vehicles with PDCC:  Disconnect wire harness for PDCC -1-  .
    1. 1.1 Unscrew screw for ground line -2-  .
    2. 1.2 Loosen bracket -3-  .

  2. Only for vehicles with PDCC:  Disconnect electric plug connections from PDCC control unit.
    1. 2.1 Release electric plug connections in the sequence -1 to 5-  and disconnect them from the PDCC control unit.

  3. Disconnect electric lines for steering -1-  and transmission -2-  at the anti-roll bar mount -3-  .
    1. 3.1 Unclip electric line for steering -1-  at -items A-  on the anti-roll bar mount -3-  .
    2. 3.2 Unclip electric line for transmission -2-  at -items B-  on the anti-roll bar mount -3-  .

  4. Loosen electric line -1-  on the power-steering gear -2-  .
    1. 4.1 Release and disconnect electric push-on connectors -3-  .
    2. 4.2 Loosen bracket -4-  .

  5. Remove universal joint -1-  on power-steering gear.
    1. 5.1 Unscrew and remove screw -2-  .
    2. 5.2 Pull universal joint -1-  up and off.

  6. Disconnect 12-volt plug connection from electric connection -3-  and adjacent coolant hoses -1-  from high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 6.1 Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the connection openings on the high-voltage power electronics and coolant hoses -1-  .
    2. 6.2 Have suitable material ready to collect emerging coolant.
    3. 6.3 Clamp off coolant hoses -1-  using >Nr.192 - hose clamping pliers  .
    4. 6.4 Loosen spring band clamps -2-  using >VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  .
    5. 6.5 Disconnect coolant hoses -1-  and close them off using suitable stoppers.
    6. 6.6 Close off connection openings on the high-voltage power electronics using suitable stoppers.
    7. 6.7 Release and disconnect 12-volt plug connection from electric connection -3-  on the high-voltage power electronics.

  7. Disconnect the remaining coolant hoses -1-  from the high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 7.1 Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the connection openings on the high-voltage power electronics and coolant hoses -1-  .
    2. 7.2 Have suitable material ready to collect emerging coolant.
    3. 7.3 Clamp off coolant hoses -1-  using >Nr.192 - hose clamping pliers  .
    4. 7.4 Loosen spring band clamps -2-  using >VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  .
    5. 7.5 Disconnect coolant hoses -1-  and close them off using suitable stoppers.
    6. 7.6 Close off connection openings on the high-voltage power electronics using suitable stoppers.
    7. 7.7 Loosen clips -3-  from high-voltage power electronics holder.

  8. Disconnect electric lines -1-  from the high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 8.1 Loosen and unscrew nuts -2-  .
    2. 8.2 Remove electric lines -1-  (positive at the bottom/ground at the top) from the high-voltage power electronics and loosen clips -3-  .
    3. 8.3 Hang electric lines -1-  at the side.

    Information 

    • Protect high-voltage plug connections from dampness. 
    • Do not release high-voltage plug connections until you have opened the cooling system. 
  9. Disconnect high-voltage lines from the high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 9.1 Loosen and unscrew screws -1-  .
    2. 9.2 Disconnect high-voltage lines from the high-voltage power electronics -arrow-  .

    Information 

    • Protect high-voltage plug connections from dampness. 
    • Do not release high-voltage plug connections until you have opened the cooling system. 
  10. Disconnect high-voltage lines -2-  at the side of the high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 10.1 Loosen and unscrew screws -1-  .
    2. 10.2 Disconnect high-voltage lines -2-  from the high-voltage power electronics.

  11. Remove bracket for high-voltage lines.
    1. 11.1 Remove expansion rivets -2-  .
    2. 11.2 Open tie-wrap -3-  , unclip upper part of bracket for high-voltage lines and remove bracket for high-voltage lines from frontaxle carrier.
    3. 11.3 Move high-voltage lines aside and secure them.

  12. Loosen moulded hose -1-  at the bottom on both sides of the vehicle at the charge-air cooler.
    1. 12.1 Loosen screw-type clamp on moulded hose -bottom arrow-  and pull off pressure hose.

  13. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -3-  from the horn -1-  on both sides of the vehicle.

  14. Disconnect electric plug connection -2-  and coolant lines -4-  from the first additional coolant pump -1-  .
    1. 14.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .
    2. 14.2 Loosen spring band clamps -3-  using >VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  and disconnect coolant lines -4-  from the first additional coolant pump -1-  .

  15. Disconnect electric plug connection -5-  and coolant lines -2 and 3-  from the second additional coolant pump -1-  .
    1. 15.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -5-  .
    2. 15.2 Loosen spring band clamps -4-  using >VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  and disconnect coolant lines -2 and 3-  from the second additional coolant pump -1-  .

    Information 

    When you loosen the fastening screws securing the engine mount to the engine, the fastening screw -1-  securing the front-axle carrier to the engine mount is accessible when the front-axle carrier is lowered.

  16. Loosen screws -2-  securing the engine mount -1-  to the engine by a few turns on both sides of the vehicle (do not unscrew fully!)

  17. Raise the front-axle carrier using >VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  and >VAS 6832/7 - Assembly fixture - Panamera G2  .
    1. 17.1 >VAS 6832/7 - Assembly fixture - Panamera G2  must be prepared in such a way that only the assembly drivers -1-  for the front axle including the supports -2 to 4-  are fitted (see "VA" (front axle) marking on >VAS 6832/7 - Assembly fixture - Panamera G2  ).
    2. 17.2 >VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  with >VAS 6832/7 - Assembly fixture - Panamera G2  must be positioned under the vehicle and the height of the assembly drivers and supports must be adjusted so that the front-axle carrier can be raised evenly.

  18. Carefully guide the assembly drivers into the jacking points -1-  on the front-axle carrier.

  19. Mark the position of the front-axle carrier (at least at the 2 front bolting points on the front-axle carrier) on the body -1-  . This will give you a rough idea of the correct position for re-installation.

  20. Remove front-axle carrier.
    1. 20.1 Unscrew screws -7 and 8-  on both sides of the vehicle and remove struts -3-  .
    2. 20.2 Unscrew screws -4 to 6-  on both sides of the vehicle.

  21. Remove front-axle carrier on both sides of the vehicle from the engine mount.
    1. 21.1 >VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  must be lowered as far as required until the screw -1-  is accessible.
    2. 21.2 Unscrew and remove screw -1-  .

  22. > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  must be lowered carefully.
    1. 22.1 Make sure not to damage the ATF cooler and the high-voltage wiring harness for the high-voltage power electronics!
