Remove Knee Airbag On Driver's Side

WARNING: Improper handling of airbag units 
  • Triggering of airbag unit. 
  • System faults can occur. 

    → Remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter) and keep it outside of the transmission range.

    → External power supply must be de-energized.

    → Disconnect the battery and isolate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.

    → Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.

    → Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.

    → Keep space in front of the airbag unit free.

    → Replace damaged parts.

    → Always set airbag units down with the blow-out opening facing upwards.

    → Do not place any objects on the airbag units.

    → Store airbag units in a safe place.

    → Avoid contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids or similar substances.

    → Store airbag units in a cool place. Maximum temperature: 90°C.

Information 

Dispose of replaced and non-ignited airbag and seat-belt pretensioner units in accordance with local legal requirements and transport regulations.

  1. Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
  2. Unscrew screws -1 and 2-  on trim panel under dashboard.

  3. Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .
  4. Carefully lower the knee airbag -3-  until the electric plug connection -4-  is accessible.

  5. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -4-  .
  6. Remove knee airbag -3-  and set it down in accordance with the relevant instructions.
