Remove Fuel Tank

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 

    → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

    → Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

    → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

    → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.

    → Se cure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

WARNING: Toxic substances 
  • Danger of poisoning or suffocation 
  • Danger of burns to the eyes and skin 

    → Ventilate the work area well.

    → Never ingest or inhale.

    → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.

  1. Have suitable aids ready for collecting emerging fuel.
  2. Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections.
  3. Remove cover on floorpan -1-  .

  4. Disconnect fuel tank connections.
    1. 4.1 Release and disconnect plug-in coupling for the fuel line -1-  .
    2. 4.2 Collect escaping fuel.
    3. 4.3 Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
    4. 4.4 Release and disconnect electric plug connections -2 and 3-  .

  5. Unscrew screws -1 to 3-  and remove protective cover -4-  .

  6. Loosen fuel tank connection -1-  at the underbody.
    1. 6.1 Release and disconnect fuel tank connection -1-  .
    2. 6.2 Collect escaping fuel.
    3. 6.3 Close off line connections with stoppers.

  7. Unclip fuel tank lines -1 and 2-  from retaining clips -3-  .

  8. Cut tie-wrap -1-  on fuel filler tube -2-  .

  9. Unclip hose -1-  from the line clip -arrow-  .

  11. Loosen fuel filler tube -5-  .
    1. 11.1 Unscrew and remove screws -1 to 3-  .
    2. 11.2 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -4-  .
    3. 11.3 Carefully pull head of the filler tube -5-  out of the filler flap seal.

  12. Disconnect carbon causer line -1-  .
    1. 12.1 Release and disconnect quick connector -2-  .
    2. 12.2 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -3-  .

  13. Support the fuel tank -1-  using a suitable base -2-  and > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack-3-  .

  14. Remove fuel tank -4-  .
    1. 14.1 Unscrew and remove screws -1 to 3-  .
    2. 14.2 Lower the fuel tank -4-  on > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  and guide it out of the vehicle together with the carbon canister line.
    3. 14.3 Remove fuel tank -4-  and restraining straps -5-  from the base and set it down on a suitable surface.
