Installing The Front Axle Carrier

Information 

Replace sealing ring.

Coat sealing rings with ATF.

  1. Guide front axle carrier into the vehicle using > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  and > VAS 6832/7 - assembly fixture - Panamera G2  and fit it on the body.
    1. 1.1 Position elevating platform > VAS 6832 - Master Gear elevating platform  with > VAS 6832/7 - assembly fixture Panamera G2  under the vehicle and raise it carefully.
    2. 1.2 Make sure not to damage the ATF cooler and the high-voltage wire harness for the high-voltage power electronics.
    3. 1.3 Before moving the front axle carrier into installation position, fit front axle carrier on the engine mount on both sides of the vehicle.
      1. 1.3.1 Tighten screw -1-  to > Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)  and > Final tightening + 90°  .

  2. Align front axle carrier according to the markings made during removal -1-  .

    Marking as an example

    1. 3.1 Tighten screws on the front axle carrier -1-  on both sides of the vehicle and fit struts -3-  .
      1. 3.1.1 Front axle carrier to body front -4-  > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180°  .
      2. 3.1.2 Front axle carrier to body rear -5-  > Tightening torque 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.)  .
      3. 3.1.3 Mounting anti-roll bar to body -6-  > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180°  .
      4. 3.1.4 Strut with mounting anti-roll bar to body -7-  > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 180°  .
      5. 3.1.5 Strut to body -8-  > Initial tightening 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.)  > Final tightening + 45°  .

  4. Lower > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  .
  5. Tighten bolts, engine mounting -2-  to engine on both sides of the vehicle to > Tightening torque 55 Nm (41 ftlb.)  .

  6. Connect and lock electric plug connection -3-  on the horn -1-  on both sides of the vehicle.

  7. Secure moulded hose -1-  at the bottom to the charge air cooler on both sides of the vehicle.
    1. 7.1 Push on screw-type clamp -Down arrow-  and tighten to > Tightening torque 5.5 Nm (4 ftlb.) +/- 0.5 Nm (0.3 ftlb.)  .

  8. Align pins for steering column in accordance with markings for left/right-hand drive vehicles > Steering in centre position

  9. Fit universal joint -1-  on power steering gear.
    1. 9.1 Tighten new screw -2-  .

      > Initial tightening 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)  > Final tightening torque angle + 90°

  10. Secure electric line -1-  on the power steering gear -2-  .
    1. 10.1 Connect and lock electric push-on connectors -3-  .
    2. 10.2 Secure bracket -4-  .

  11. Secure electric line for steering -1-  and electric line for transmission -2-  at -Positions A and B-  on the mounting anti-roll bar -3-  .

  12. Connect coolant hoses -1-  to power electronics.
    1. 12.1 Pull off stoppers on the connection openings on the high-voltage power electronics and the coolant hoses -1-  .
    2. 12.2 Attach coolant hoses -1-  .
    3. 12.3 Position spring band clamps -2-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .
    4. 12.4 Remove > Nr.192 - hose clamping pliers  .
    5. 12.5 Secure clips -3-  on high-voltage power electronics.

  13. Connect 12-volt plug connection and adjacent coolant hoses -1-  to high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 13.1 Pull off stoppers on the connection openings on the high-voltage power electronics and the coolant hoses -1-  .
    2. 13.2 Attach coolant hoses -1-  .
    3. 13.3 Position spring band clamps -2-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .
    4. 13.4 Remove > Nr.192 - hose clamping pliers  .
    5. 13.5 Connect 12-volt plug connection to electric connection -3-  to the high-voltage power electronics and lock electric plug connection.

  14. Connect electric plug connection -2-  and coolant lines -4-  to the first additional coolant pump -1-  .
    1. 14.1 Connect and lock electric plug connection -2-  .
    2. 14.2 Attach coolant lines -4-  to the first additional coolant pump -1-  and position spring band clamps -3-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .

  15. Connect electric plug connection -5-  and coolant lines -2 and 3-  to the second additional coolant pump -1-  .
    1. 15.1 Connect and lock electric plug connection -5-  .
    2. 15.2 Attach coolant lines -2 and 3-  on the second additional coolant pump -1-  and position spring band clamps -4-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .

  16. Install bracket for high-voltage lines.
    1. 16.1 Loosen fixing device for wire harness for high-voltage lines.
    2. 16.2 Fit tie-wrap loosely and position bracket for high-voltage lines.
    3. 16.3 Clip in upper part of bracket for high-voltage lines.
    4. 16.4 Tighten tie-wrap -3-  .
    5. 16.5 Install expansion rivets -2-  .

  17. Secure high-voltage lines on power electronics.
    1. 17.1 Connect high-voltage lines on power electronics.
    2. 17.2 Fit screws -1-  and tighten to > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)  .

    Information 

    • Protect high-voltage plug connections from dampness. 
    • Do not release high-voltage plug connections until you have opened the cooling system. 
  18. Secure high-voltage lines -2-  at the side of the power electronics.
    1. 18.1 Connect high-voltage lines -2-  on high-voltage power electronics.
    2. 18.2 Fit screws -1-  and tighten to > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)  .

  19. Secure electric lines -1-  to high-voltage power electronics.
    1. 19.1 Position electric lines -1-  on high-voltage power electronics and fasten clips -3-  .
    2. 19.2 Fit connections for electric lines -1-  (positive at the bottom/ground at the top  ) on the studs.
    3. 19.3 Fit nuts -2-  .
    4. 19.4 Tighten nut on positive line (bottom) to > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)  .
    5. 19.5 Tighten nut on ground line (top) to > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)  .

    Electric lines for high-voltage power electronics

  20. Only for vehicles with PDCC:  Connect electric plug connections to the roll stabilization (PDCC).

    Information 

    Before connecting the 48 V connectors, check whether the sealing ring -1-  is positioned under the locking lugs -2-  in the connectors.

    Carefully press the sealing ring back over the locking lugs if necessary.

    1. 20.1 Plug in and lock electric plug connections on the roll stabilization (PDCC) in sequence -1 to 5-  .

  21. Only for vehicles with PDCC:  Fit wire harness for PDCC -1-  .
    1. 21.1
    2. 21.2 Secure bracket -3-  .
    3. 21.3 Tighten screw for ground line -2-  to > Tightening torque 5.6 Nm (4 ftlb.)  .
