Remove Engine

Vehicle, underneath

  1. Remove electric passenger compartment heater.

    > WM, 828019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ELECTRIC PASSENGER COMPARTMENT HEATER

  2. Disconnect engine wire harness -1-  in the front left wheel housing.
    1. 2.1 Loosen tie-wraps -arrows-  .
    2. 2.2 On the control unit holder -2-  , loosen clip -arrows-  .
    3. 2.3 Remove wiring harness holder -3-  from wiring harness holder.
    4. 2.4 Loosen clips -arrows-  from the air-conditioning line holder -5-  .
    5. 2.5 Release and disconnect connectors -6-  and -7-  on the engine control unit.
    6. 2.6 Disconnect wire harness -1-  and guide it out while lowering the engine.

  3. Disconnect engine wire harness -1-  in the front left wheel housing.
    1. 3.1 Release and disconnect connectors -2-  and -3-  on the engine control unit.
    2. 3.2 Loosen holder -arrows-  on the air-conditioning line holder -4-  .
    3. 3.3 Loosen holder -arrows-  and loosen wire harness holder -5-  at the top of the wing.
    4. 3.4 Loosen holder -arrows-  for wire harness -1-  on the control unit holder -6-  .
    5. 3.5 Open the clip and disconnect vacuum line -7-  from the wiring harness -1-  .
    6. 3.6 Disconnect wire harness -1-  and guide it out while lowering the engine.

  4. Disconnect air-conditioning line (low-pressure) -1-  in the engine compartment.
    1. 4.1 Unscrew screw -2-  and disconnect air-conditioning line.

  5. Disconnect vacuum line -1-  on the valve cover.

    WARNING: Hot fluid 
    • Danger of scalding 

      → Let the fluid cool down.

      → Wear personal protective gear.

  6. Pull off coolant line -1-  at the top of the radiator -2-  .
    1. 6.1 Loosen safety clip -3-  .
    2. 6.2 Collect emerging coolant.

  7. Disconnect coolant line -1-  at the top right of the radiator.
    1. 7.1 Loosen safety clip -2-  .
    2. 7.2 Collect emerging coolant.

  8. Release and disconnect electric connector -2-  for coolant temperature sensor -1-  .

  9. At the reservoirs -1-  and -2-  , disconnect coolant lines.
    1. 9.1 Loosen clamp -4-  and pull off coolant line -3-  .
    2. 9.2 Loosen safety clip -6-  and pull off coolant line -5-  .
    3. 9.3 Collect emerging coolant.

  10. Release and disconnect electric connectors on the pressure sensor at the left and right on the throttle valve.
  11. Disconnect B+ line -1-  on the relay carrier -2-  .
    1. 11.1 Unscrew nut -3-  and remove B+ line -1-  .

  12. Disconnect coolant vent line -1-  .
    1. 12.1 Loosen clamp -2-  and pull off vent line -1-  .

    WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
    • Danger of fire or explosion 

      → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

      → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.

      → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

      → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.

      → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

  13. Disconnect fuel supply line -1-  .
    1. 13.1 Press release mechanism -2-  in -direction of arrow-  and pull off fuel line -1-  .

  14. Disconnect ground cable -1-  on the right spring strut dome.
    1. 14.1 Unscrew and remove screw -2-  .

  15. Disconnect tank vent line -1-  at the tank vent valve -2-  .
    1. 15.1 Loosen clamp -3-  and pull off line -1-  .

  16. Disconnect electric lines and connectors.
    1. 16.1 Release and disconnect electric connectors -1-  and -2-  .
    2. 16.2 Release and disconnect electric connector -4-  on the sensor -5-  .

  17. Loosen torque support on the engine.

    > 103719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TORQUE SUPPORT 

    1. 17.1 Unscrew screw on the engine.

      Vehicle, top: 

  18. Disconnect electric lines in the front left wheel housing.
    1. 18.1 Loosen connector housing -1-  and disconnect plug connection.
    2. 18.2 Loosen B+ line -2-  at the holder -3-  and disconnect plug connection.
    3. 18.3 Unscrew nut -4-  and disconnect ground cable -5-  .

  19. Only for PDCC: 

    Disconnect wire harness on the PDCC anti-roll bar control unit.

    1. 19.1 Observe the specified sequence when loosening electric plug connections.
  20. Disconnect wire harness for steering gear -1-  .
    1. 20.1 Open the holder -2-  .
    2. 20.2 Release and disconnect connectors -3-  , -4-  and -5-  .

  21. Loosen universal joint on the steering gear.

    > 489055 REPLACING POWER-STEERING GEAR

  22. Disconnect electric connector for pressure switch -1-  for air-conditioning line -2-  on the front left longitudinal member.

  23. Disconnect coolant lines -1-  and -2-  .
    1. 23.1 Remove air guide on charge-air cooler at the rear.
    2. 23.2 Loosen clamps -3-  and pull off coolant lines -1-  and -2-  .
    3. 23.3 Collect emerging coolant.

  24. Disconnect electric line for horn.

    > WM, 905019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HORN

    1. 24.1 Release and disconnect electric connectors on the horn.
    2. 24.2 Loosen two holders on the front-axle carrier.
  25. Disconnect electric line at the power electronics

    > 279319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HIGH-VOLTAGE LINE FROM POWER ELECTRONICS TO HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY

  26. Disconnect electric line on additional coolant pump -1-  at the front.
    1. 26.1 Release and disconnect electric connector -2-  .

  27. Disconnect electric line for change-over valve -1-  .
    1. 27.1 Release and disconnect electric connector -2-  .
    2. 27.2 Remove electric line -1-  from the holders -arrows-  .

  28. Loosen spring strut on the lower wishbone -1-  .
    1. 28.1 Loosen and unscrew screw and nut -2-  .

  29. Loosen wire harness for wheel carrier.
    1. 29.1 Release and disconnect connectors for ABS sensor -1-  , sensor for body -2-  and connector for wear indicator -3-  .
    2. 29.2 Loosen wire harness from the holder -arrows-  .
    3. 29.3 Unscrew screws -4-  and disconnect brake line at the wheel carrier.

    NOTE: Removal of brake calliper 
    • Paint defects on brake calliper 

      → Proceed with care when setting back the brake pads.

      → Protect the paintwork on the brake calliper from damage using a suitable cloth.

  30. Loosen front brake calliper from the wheel carrier.

    > 473919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BRAKE CALLIPER

    1. 30.1 Unscrew screws -arrows-  and remove brake calliper.
    2. 30.2 Secure the brake calliper with a tie-wrap.

  31. Remove wheel carrier on the upper wishbone using > T10187 - press-out tool  .
    WARNING: Hot fluid 
    • Danger of scalding 

      → Let the fluid cool down.

      → Wear personal protective gear.

  32. Disconnect coolant lines for heating -1-  and -2-  .
    1. 32.1 Loosen clamps and pull off coolant lines.
    2. 32.2 Collect emerging coolant.

  33. Release and disconnect electric connector -1-  on front-axle carrier -2-  at the front right.

  34. Loosen strut -1-  .
    1. 34.1 Unscrew and remove screw -2-  .
    2. 34.2 Loosen screw -3-  .
    3. 34.3 Turn strut to the side.

  37. Fit and align unit support > VAS 6832/7 - assembly fixture - Panamera G2  on the > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  with the help of another person.
    1. 37.1 Prepare unit support as required for the vehicle.

      Adhesive tape markings on the workshop floor

      • Before moving the unit elevating platform, mark the position of the wheels on the workshop floor with adhesive tape. This makes it easier to position the platform again for re-installation. 
  38. > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  must be aligned under the engine and transmission. Then raise it as far as required until the units are supported.
  39. Screws on the front-axle carrier and transmission support must now be unscrewed.
  40. Fit wheel hub holder -1-  at both sides using assembly pins/wheel bolt -2-  on the wheel hub.

  41. Disconnect coolant lines -1-  and -2-  at the front right of the front-axle carrier.
    1. 41.1 Lower the engine slightly.
    2. 41.2 Open holder -3-  and loosen coolant line -1-  .
    3. 41.3 Loosen clamps -3-  using > VAS 6891 - spring band clamp pliers  .
    4. 41.4 Pull off coolant lines -1-  and -2-  .
    5. 41.5 Collect emerging coolant.

  42. Remove the engine.
    1. 42.1 Gradually lower the unit elevating platform with the engine/transmission unit.
    2. 42.2 Move unit elevating platform with engine out of the work area.
