Removing Wheel Bearing Housing

1. Remove brake cover panel -1-  .

   1. 1.1 Unscrew fastening screws -2-  .
2. Remove front level sensor -1-  on the body.

   1. 2.1 Screw off nut -2-  .
3. Remove cable holder -1-  .

   1. 3.1 Unscrew fastening screws -2-  .
4. For vehicles with all-wheel drive:  Use > VAS 6926 - Puller set  to press the drive shaft peg max > Control value + 10 mm  into the wheel hub so that the drive shaft splines are no longer engaged in the wheel hub > Pressing in drive shaft

5. Remove tie-rod ball -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 5.1 Unscrew nut -2-  on joint pin for the tie-rod ball until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.
   2. 5.2 Press off joint pin for tie-rod ball using > T10187 - Press-out tool  > Pressing off joint pin

   3. 5.3 Unscrew nut -2-  from joint pin for the tie-rod ball.
6. Remove lower trailing arm -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 6.1 Support upper trailing arm on the body using > VW552 - Spring tensioner  to prevent damage to the ball joint on the upper trailing arm due to the weight of the wheel bearing housing.
      1. 6.1.1 > VW552 - Spring tensioner  must be secured to body > Securing spring compressor to body  .

      2. 6.1.2 > VW552 - Spring tensioner  must be secured to the upper trailing arm > Securing spring compressor to upper trailing arm  .

      3. 6.1.3 > VW552 - Spring tensioner  must be pre-tensioned slightly.
   2. 6.2 Unscrew nut -2-  on joint pin for lower axle joint as far as required until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.

   3. 6.3 Remove sleeve -1-  from > T10187 - Press-out tool  .

   4. 6.4 Press off joint pin on the lower trailing arm using > T10187 - Press-out tool  > Pressing off joint pin

   5. 6.5 Screw off nut -2-  on joint pin for the axle joint.

7. Remove upper trailing arm -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 7.1 Unscrew nut -2-  on joint pin for axle joint as far as required until it is flush with the upper edge of the joint pin.
   2. 7.2 Press off joint pin on the upper trailing arm using > T10187 - Press-out tool  > Pressing off joint pin

   3. 7.3 Screw off nut -2-  on joint pin for the axle joint.

8. Carefully guide out wheel bearing housing.

1. 8.1 For vehicles with all-wheel drive:  Pull the drive shaft out of the splines of the wheel hub and set it down carefully on the lower trailing arm.

Installing wheel bearing housing 

Information 

• Molub Alloy Paste TA can be ordered using the Porsche Electronic Parts Information (PET). 
• The thread of the drive shaft must not be greased! 

1. Grease drive shaft splines with Molub Alloy Paste TA.
2. Place wheel bearing housing in installation position.
   1. 2.1 Guide drive shaft into the wheel hub.
   2. 2.2 Guide joint pins of the trailing arms into the bearing sleeves of the wheel bearing housing.
3. Fit upper trailing arm -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 3.1 Tighten nut -2-  > Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.) 
4. Fit lower trailing arm -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 4.1 Tighten nut -2-  > Tightening torque 130 Nm (96 ftlb.) 
5. Fit tie-rod ball -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

   1. 5.1 Tighten nut -2-  > Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.) 
6. Install cable holder -1-  .

   Cable holder to wheel bearing housing: > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.) 

   Sensor for body with cable holder to wheel bearing housing: > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.) 

7. Fit front level sensor -1-  on the body.

8. Install brake cover panel -1-  .
