Removing Coil Spring

WARNING: Preloaded or pressurised components

Risk of squashing or bruising
→ Do not reach into the danger area.

→ Relieve the tension on components before starting work.

→ Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.

Information

Do not press coil springs together onto the block.
Do not damage the surface of the coil springs (corrosion protection).
Do not use solvents to clean the coil springs.

Spring compressor

1	Clamping cylinder (> 9823 - Spring compressor )
2	Upper spring tensioning plate with latch and support for holding wrench -4- (> 9823/1 - Spring tensioning plates )
3	Lower spring tensioning plate (> 9823/1 - Spring tensioning plates )
4	Holding wrench (> 9823 - Spring compressor )

Loosen holder for level sensor -2- from the trailing arm.

Mounting for level sensor holder
1. 1.1 Unscrew fastening screw -1- .
  Information
  
  Insert upper spring tensioning plate in such a way that the support for the countering wrench is accessible.
Insert spring tensioning plate with latch -1- (> 9823/1 - Spring tensioning plates ) as far up as possible in the coil spring.

Insert lower spring tensioning plate -1- (> 9823/1 - Spring tensioning plates ) as far down as possible in the coil spring.

Turn the clamping cylinder -1- apart (as far as required) and guide it through both spring tensioning plates -2- from below.

Guiding in clamping cylinder
Turn the plunger of the clamping cylinder through 60° to lock it in the upper spring tensioning plate.
Information
- The spring tensioning plates must be flush with the coil spring. If necessary, carefully adjust the spring tensioning plates during the clamping process.
- Counter at the upper spring tensioning plate using the holding wrench during the clamping process.
Tension the coil spring as required > Tensioning coil springs until the spring plates can be removed.
