Replacing Rear Bearing

Information
The following tools are required for replacing the rear bearing:
- > 9698/1 - Assembly fixture
- > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder
- > VAS 6179 - Foot Pump
- Optional: > VAS 6179/1 - Pressure Gauge with Connection Line
- Mark the position of the cut-out -1-
on the rear axle housing (for positioning the new bearing).

- Press out rear bearing.

1 Pressure piece 9698/1-4 2 Large insert 9698/1-2 3 Sleeve 9698/1-1 4 > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder - 2.1 Centre pressure piece 9698/1-4 on the rear bearing.
- 2.2 Fit large insert 9698/1-2 on sleeve 9698/1-1 and centre it on the contact surface of the rear axle housing.
- 2.3 Press out rear bearing.
- De-burr edges -1-
of the cut-outs in the bearing seat.

- Press in rear bearing.
Pressing in rear bearing
1 Pressure piece 9698/1-6 2 Rear bearing 3 Pin 9698/1-9 (4x) screwed into washer 9698/1-8 , position B 4 Washer 9698/1-8 5 > VAS 6178 - Hydraulic cylinder - 4.1 Screw four pins 9698/1-9 into washer 9698/1-8 (position B).
- 4.2 Centre pressure piece 9698/1-6 on the contact surface of the rear axle housing.
- 4.3 Fit rear bearing at a centre position on the bearing seat.
- 4.4 Centre pin 9698/1-9 with washer 9698/1-8 on the contact surface of the rear axle housing.
- 4.5 Align rear bearing according to -marking-
(see below
).
If there is no marking: The cut-out -1- must point towards the rear in direction of travel.
Aligning rear bearing
Information
Overpressing the bearing can damage the rubber. The bearing must be replaced in this case.
- 4.6 Press the rear bearing in as far as required until there is no gap between the rubber -1-
and the contact surface of the rear axle housing.
