Replacing Rear Axle Housing

Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- Convert servo motor for rear axle steering.
> 488319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SERVO MOTOR FOR REAR AXLE STEERING
- Remove threaded joint -1-
for trailing arm, shock absorber and connecting link on both sides of the vehicle and remove shock absorbers.

- Remove cable holder -1-
on the rear axle housing on both sides of the vehicle.

- 3.1 Loosen electric connector -2- from the holder and unscrew fastening screw -3- .
- Loosen holder for rear angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment at the top -1-
on both sides of the vehicle from the rear axle housing.

- 4.1 Unscrew fastening screw -4- .
- Remove tie rod -1-
and upper control arm -2 and 3-
on both sides of the vehicle from the rear axle housing.

- 5.1 Remove threaded joints -4, 5 and 6- .
- Remove threaded joints for trailing arm on rear axle housing on both sides of the vehicle.

- 6.1 Remove eccentric threaded joint -1- .
- 6.2 Remove threaded joint -2- .
- Convert struts -1-

Mounting for struts
- 7.1 Unscrew fastening screws -2- and secure struts with new fastening screws > Initial tightening 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.) > Final tightening torque angle + 90°
- Install threaded joints for trailing arm on rear axle housing on both sides of the vehicle.

- 8.1 Install eccentric threaded joint -1- > Tightening torque 160 Nm (118 ftlb.)
- 8.2 Install new threaded joint -2- > Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) > Final tightening torque angle + 180°
- Fit tie rod -1-
and upper control arm -2 and 3-
on both sides of the vehicle on the rear axle housing.
Upper control arm mounting
- 9.1 Install threaded joint -4- > Tightening torque 100 Nm (74 ftlb.)
- 9.2 Install new threaded joint -5- > Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) > Final tightening torque angle + 90°
- 9.3 Install new threaded joint -6- > Initial tightening 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) > Final tightening torque angle + 90°
- Secure holder for rear angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment at the top -1-
on both sides of the vehicle on the rear axle housing.

- 10.1 Tighten new fastening screw -4- > Initial tightening 3 Nm (2 ftlb.) > Final tightening + 45°
- Fit cable holder -1-
on the rear axle housing on both sides of the vehicle.
Cable holder mounting
- 11.1 Tighten fastening screw -3- and secure electric connector -2- to the holder > Tightening torque 8 Nm (5.9 ftlb.)
- Fit shock absorbers and install new threaded joint -1-
for trailing arm, shock absorber and connecting link on both sides of the vehicle > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.)
> Final tightening torque angle + 180°
