Removing Cylinder Head Cover (Left Cylinder Bank)

Information 

The steps described here are shown on the right cylinder bank, but also apply for the opposite side.

  1. Remove stoppers on camshafts -1-  .
    1. 1.1 Unscrew screw on stopper -2-  .
    2. 1.2 Remove stoppers on camshafts -1-  .

  2. Release and disconnect electric plug connections for camshaft sensors -1-  .

  3. Remove cylinder head cover -20-  .
    1. 3.1 Unscrew screws on cylinder head cover -1 to 19-  .
    2. 3.2 Depending on type: 

      Screw two screws (M8 x 25) into the threaded bores -Arrows-  by hand.

      1. 3.2.1 Tighten screws alternately by half a turn until the cylinder head cover -20-  is loosened.
    3. 3.3 Loosen cylinder head cover using a plastic wedge.
    4. 3.4 Remove cylinder head cover -20-  .
