Replacing TPM Control Unit

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if required.
  3. Select the Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM)  control unit in the overview.  Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  4. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  5. Control unit replacement  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  6. Read data  must be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  7. Data is read out. Press F12 to continue.
  8. Switch off ignition. Replace control unit.

  9. Switch on ignition, change to the Write data menu (procedure described above), press F12 and then press F8 to start. The data that was read out is loaded.
  10. The System Tester displays the message: Data has been written.  Press F12 to continue.
  11. Go back to Maintenance/repairs.  Press F11 to continue.
  12. Teach wheel IDs  must now be selected. Press F12 continue.
  13. Teach wheel IDs without driving  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  14. Wheel IDs unknown  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  15. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue. Reduce the respective tyre pressure for approx. 5 seconds as instructed by the Tester and follow the instructions.
  16. Adapt tyre pressure according to specifications.
  17. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
  18. Switch to the Codings/adaptations  menu.
  19. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  20. The Tester displays the message: Coding completed successfully. Press F12 to continue.
  21. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  22. Exit the diagnostic application, switch off ignition, disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  23. Check the TPM function during the test drive.
