Adjusting Front Lid

Information 

• Adjust gap dimensions on lid and add-on parts in accordance with gap specifications. 
• If the clearance in the opening is too great or too small, accessories must be centered with respect to the body. 
• Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points. 
• The specified values are guidelines, which should be observed as far as possible. 
• The guidelines apply to repair work and assembly work. 
• Use star gauges to check the gap dimensions.  > VAS 6937 - Adjusting gauge 

1. Loosen nuts on upper part of lock -1-  so that the upper part of the lock can still be moved.

2. Loosen nuts on the front lid -2-  at both sides so that the lid can still be moved.

3. Close the lid.
4. By moving the front lid at the hinges, adjust the contours according to the wings, main headlights and front apron.
   • Front lid to front apron (B1) > Gap dimension 3.2 mm + 0.8 mm - 0.6 mm 
   • Front lid to front apron (B2) > Gap dimension - 1 mm - 0.3 mm +/- 0.5 mm 
   • Front lid to wing (K1) > Gap dimension 3 mm +/- 0.7 mm 
   • Front lid to wing (K2) > Gap dimension 0 mm +/- 0.5 mm

5. Tighten nuts on front lid -2-  > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) (14.8 ftlb.)

6. Close the front lid and check the setting. If the setting does not match the required values, the steps must be repeated.
7. Tighten nuts on upper part of lock -1-  > Tightening torque 12 Nm (8.9 ftlb.)

8. Check adjustment of front edge of lid with respect to the front apron.
9. Change the inclination, gap dimension and height of the front edge of the lid by setting the adjusting elements. The adjusting elements must allow slight preload on the front lid when it is closed.

10. Check the height adjustment and change it if necessary.
