Adjusting Gap Dimensions Of Rear Lid

- Remove lower part of rear lock.

Information
Make sure that the roof trim panel does not buckle.
- Lower the rear roof trim panel until the nuts on the hinge are accessible.
- Adjust gap dimension of rear lid with respect to the roof.
- 3.1 Loosen nuts -2-
on the hinge on the rear lid at both sides so that the lid can still be moved.
Loosen nuts
- 3.2 Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the Centre (handle area) and check the gap dimension.
- 3.3 Adjust the gap dimension of the rear lid with respect to the roof by moving the lid.
- Rear lid to roof/P-roof (R1) > Gap dimension 4.5 mm + 1 mm - 0.2 mm
- Rear lid to roof/P-roof (R6) > Gap dimension - 0.2 mm + 0.8 mm - 0.7 mm
- 3.4 Screw on and tighten nuts -2- > Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ftlb.)
Screwing on nuts
Information
- The adjusting elements must be adjusted so that there is a slight preload when the rear lid is closed completely.
- The preload must be the same on the left and right.
- 3.1 Loosen nuts -2-
on the hinge on the rear lid at both sides so that the lid can still be moved.
- Adjust the joint between the lid and side panel and rear apron.
- Rear lid to side panel (R2) > Gap dimension 3.5 mm +/- 0.5 mm
- Spoiler to side panel (R3) > Gap dimension 3.5 mm +/- 0.7 mm
- Rear lid to rear apron (R4) > Gap dimension 3.7 mm +/- 0.8 mm
- Rear lid to rear apron (R5) > Gap dimension - 1 mm +/- 0.9 mm
- 4.1 Loosen screws -3-
and push adjusting elements -4-
down as far as they will go.
Loosening bolts
- 4.2 Adjust the joint between the rear lid and side panel by pushing the adjusting elements -4-
up or down.
Positioning adjusting elements
- 4.3 Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the Centre (handle area) and press the adjusting elements.
- 4.4 Check the setting and repeat the adjustment procedure if necessary.
- 4.5 Tighten screws on adjusting element > Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.4 ftlb.)
- Set adjusting elements at the bottom.
- 5.1 Loosen screw on adjusting elements -1-
and press adjusting elements -1-
in completely -arrow A-

Pressing in adjusting element
- 5.2 Press adjusting elements -1- approx. 1 cm into the square opening.
- 5.3 Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the Centre (handle area) and then open it again.
- 5.4 Pull adjusting elements -1- out again by one notch -arrow A- .
- 5.5 Tighten screw on adjusting elements -1- .
Adjusting rubber stops
- 5.1 Loosen screw on adjusting elements -1-
and press adjusting elements -1-
in completely -arrow A-

- Adjust lower part of lock.
- 6.1 Insert lower part of lock -1-
and screw in screws -2-
so that the lower part of the lock can still be moved.
Adjusting lower part of lock
- 6.2 Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the Centre (handle area) until the lock engages.
- 6.3 Open the lid.
- 6.4 Screw in and tighten screws for lower part of rear lock > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
- 6.1 Insert lower part of lock -1-
and screw in screws -2-
so that the lower part of the lock can still be moved.
- Check adjustment at the top and bottom > Checking adjustment using a strip of paper
- 7.1 Hold a strip of paper on the sealing surface.
- 7.2 Close the lid.
- 7.3 To check this, test-drive the vehicle on an uneven stretch of road (bad road surface) during approval.
Information
- It should still be possible to pull the paper strip out when the rear lid is closed. If the paper strip can be pulled out easily or cannot be pulled out at all, correct the preload on the adjusting elements.
- 7.4 Pull strip of paper out of the sealing surfaces.
