Removing Exhaust System Warning Caution

Information
The steps for removing and installing a twin-branch exhaust system are described here. This description is also valid by way of example for a single-branch exhaust system.
- Remove tunnel strut -3-
.
- 1.1 Loosen and unscrew screws -1 and 2- .
- 1.2 Remove strut -3- .
Tunnel strut
- Secure the exhaust system using > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack-1-
.
- 2.1 Position transmission jack -1- under the exhaust system so that both pipes are supported at the same time.
- 2.2 Guide tension strap around both pipes and fasten it. Raise the exhaust system slightly.

- Unscrew screws -4-
on transmission bridge holders -3-
. Loosen ball clamps -2-
between the catalytic converters and front silencer -1-

- For vehicles with sports exhaust system:
Pull off vacuum hose -1-
on vacuum unit for exhaust flap -2-
.
Vacuum hose for exhaust system
- Secure decoupling elements -1-
to prevent them from moving.
- 5.1 Secure decoupling elements -1- with wire -2- on transmission support -3- .

- Loosen centre exhaust system mount -2-
. Unscrew screws -1-
.
Centre exhaust system mount
- For vehicles with rear axle steering:
Remove strut -4-
between the rear silencers.

- Release and disconnect cable plugs -1-
from the actuators -2-

Exhaust flap actuator
- Loosen holders -2-
for both rear silencers. Unscrew screws -1-
.

- Remove exhaust system.
- 10.1 Guide the exhaust system, which is secured with a tension strap -arrows- , downwards using the transmission jack.
- 10.2 Make sure not to damage any heat shields.
