Installing Front Disc Brake Pads

Information 

When replacing the brake pads, always pay attention to the following: 

• The backs of the pad backing plates must not be greased. 
• Disc brakes must be clean and free of grease. 
• The core of the warning contact line must not be exposed! Worn insulation is not important. 
• A new repair kit must be used (only replace brake pads on both sides of axle). 

Information 

A different brake variant can be installed, depending on the country of delivery.

When working on the brake system, select and observe the relevant description.

1. Check front brake discs for wear and replace them if necessary.

   > 465002 - CHECKING FRONT BRAKE DISCS 

2. Check that all parts are in perfect condition (visual inspection) and replace them if necessary.
   WARNING: Old mounting parts fitted on the brake calliper 

   • Reduced braking effect 
   • Risk of damage to the brake calliper 

     → Fit new pad retaining springs

     → Fit new fastening screws

3. Replace pad retaining springs.
4. Pull off any protective film on the backs of the pad backing plates and remove adhesive residue.

   Information 

   • The direction arrow on the brake pads must be pointing in rolling direction. 
   • The brake pad with the brake pad wear cable must be on the inside. 
5. Insert brake pads into the brake calliper.

   Information 

   The pad retaining pin must be seated securely in both bores so that it can no longer loosen by itself.

6. Install pad retaining pins -1 and 3-  and pad retaining spring -2-  .

   1. 6.1 Press pad retaining pin -1-  through the bore in the brake calliper from the inside out.
   2. 6.2 Engage pad retaining spring -2-  on the upper pad retaining pin and tension it (in order to fit pad retaining pin -3-  ).
   3. 6.3 Press pad retaining pin -3-  through the bore in the brake calliper from the inside out. Press pad retaining pin as far as it will go using a punch.
7. Install line for brake pad wear indicator -1-  .

   1. 7.1 Secure line for brake pad wear indicator at the holder -3-  .
   2. 7.2 Connect and lock cable plug -2-  .
   3. 7.3 Attach the cable plug -2-  to the holder.

2. Check that all parts are in perfect condition (visual inspection) and replace them if necessary.
3. Install new pad retaining springs.
4. Pull off any protective film on the backs of the pad backing plates and remove adhesive residue.
5. Place disc brake pad on the sealing surfaces of the pad retaining springs -Arrows-  .

6. Press brake pad into the brake calliper with slight pressure and push it onto the pad retaining pins -Arrows-  .

7. Install disc brake pad -Arrow-  .

8. Install warning contact.
