Checking/Adjusting Wheel Alignment

1. Place front wheels on turntable and rear wheels on rotary/sliding plates.
2. Centre the steering using > VAS 6826 - Steering wheel balance  .

Centring camber on the front axle 

Information 

• Camber at the front axle cannot be adjusted. But camber can be centred evenly within the tolerance range by moving the front-axle carrier. 
• All axle adjustment values must be checked whenever the camber is adjusted. 
• The front-axle carrier only needs to be moved if the camber values are not correct. 

1. Removing front underbody cover.

   1. 2.1 Unscrew screws -1 and 2-  .
   2. 2.2 Remove heat shields.
3. Loosen screws -1 and 3-  on the transmission support -2-  to ensure that the transmission mount is not strained.

4. Loosen screws on front-axle carrier -1 to 8-  .

   Centring the front axle

   1. 5.1 Raise the front of the vehicle at the lifting platform jacking points using an axle lift.
   2. 5.2 Move front axle carrier -1-  with engine mount and stabilizer to the -2-  required position using a plastic-coated tyre lever -Arrow-  .
   3. 5.3 Compress the vehicle springs a number of times at the front axle and check the camber values. If necessary, repeat the procedure until the camber values are OK.
6. Replace and tighten screws on front axle carrier.

   Screw on front axle carrier

   1. 6.1 Unscrew the old screws -1 and 4-  on the front axle carrier and replace them with new ones.

      Tighten -1 and 4-  new screws on front axle carrier.

      > Initial - tightening 115 Nm (85 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90° 

   2. 6.2 Unscrew the old screws -2 and 3-  on the front axle carrier and replace them with new ones.

      Tighten -2 and 3-  new screws on front axle carrier.

      > Initial - tightening 115 Nm (85 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90° 

   3. 6.3 Unscrew the old screws -5 and 8-  on the front axle carrier and replace them with new ones.

      Tighten -5 and 8-  new screws on front axle carrier.

      > Initial - tightening 115 Nm (85 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90° 

   4. 6.4 Unscrew the old screws -6 and 7-  on the front axle carrier and replace them with new ones.

      Tighten -6 and 7-  new screws on front axle carrier.

      > Initial - tightening 115 Nm (85 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90° 

7. Tighten -1 and 3-  screws on transmission support.

   > Tightening - torque 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)

8. Check the camber value again.
9. Install shields on the left and right.
   1. 9.1 Fit shields.
   2. 9.2 Screw in and tighten screws -1 and 2-  on shields.

      Screws -1-  :

      > Tightening - torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 

      Screw -2-  :

      > Tightening - torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 

10. Install front underbody cover.
