Adjust Front Axle Toe

  1. Secure the steering wheel -1-  in centre position.

    1. 1.1 > VAS 6826 - Fix the steering wheel scale-2-  to the steering wheel -1-  and centre the steering wheel. -1- 
    2. 1.2 Fix the steering wheel -1-  in the centre position with the -3-  steering wheel lock. Make sure that the steering wheel lock -3-  does not protrude into the area of the airbag unit.
  2. Remove front -2-  brake-disc air guide.

    Front brake-disc air guide on tie rod

    1. 2.1 Cut through the lower arms of the clamp -1-  at the marked positions -Arrows-  using a suitable tool.
    2. 2.2 Remove air guide -2-  and replace it.
  3. Measure dimension -a-  between the tie-rod ball -1-  and start of the thread on the tie rod -2-  on both sides of the vehicle and write down the value.

  4. Measure dimension -a-  between the tie-rod ball -1-  and tie rod -2-  on the left and right and take note of the value. Dimension -a-  should be the same before and after alignment on the left and right (maximum difference between left and right < 2.5 mm).

    Information 

    The tie rod bellows must not be twisted.

    If the bellows also turn when turning the tie rods, they must be moved back to normal position again by hand following adjustment.

  5. Adjust the toe.

    Tie-rod ball on tie rod

    1. 5.1 Loosen lock nut -3-  on the tie rod -2-  and counter on the tie-rod ball -1-  at the same time.
    2. 5.2 Adjust the toe on the hexagon of the tie rod -2-  on both sides of the vehicle.
    3. 5.3 Tighten lock nut -3-  .

      > Tightening - torque 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) 

    4. 5.4 Check toe values again and correct them if necessary.
  6. Measure dimension -a-  between the tie-rod ball -1-  and tie rod -2-  on the left and right and take note of the value. Dimension -a-  should be the same before and after alignment on the left and right (maximum difference between left and right < 2.5 mm).

  7. Install new front brake-disc air guide on -2-  both sides of the vehicle on tie rod.

    1. 7.1 Push the air guide -2-  onto the tie-rod ball from the front.

      Check position of the lock nut -3-  in the cut-out of the air guide -2-  .

    2. 7.2 Check that the clamp -1-  has locked correctly through the test lugs in the air guide element -2-  .
