Disassembling Engine

Information 

• Open connections and lines must be closed off using suitable stoppers or caps. 

Information 

For many components, it is only necessary to partially disassemble the engine. The extent of disassembly depends on the damage and scope of repairs to be carried out.

1. Remove turbocharger.

2. Remove the high-pressure pump.

3. Remove intake-air distributor.

4. Remove fuel collection pipe.

5. Remove fuel injectors.

6. Remove oil cooler bracket.

7. Remove drive belt for coolant pump.

   > 194819 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE BELT FOR COOLANT PUMP (R4)

8. Remove coolant pump.

   > 195019 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING COOLANT PUMP (R4)

9. Remove pulse sender.

   > 287319 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING PULSE SENDER

10. Remove knock sensor.

    > 287219 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING KNOCK SENSOR (R4)

11. Remove oil-pressure sender.

    > 170419 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL-PRESSURE SENDER (R4)

12. Remove pressure-regulating valve.

    > 172619 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING PRESSURE-REGULATING VALVE (R4)

13. Remove ignition coils.

    > 282020 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING IGNITION COILS (R4)

14. Remove spark plugs.

    > 287020 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING SPARK PLUGS (R4)

15. Remove hydraulic valve for valve lift switchover.

16. Remove oil separator.

    > 105519 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL SEPARATOR (R4) 

17. Remove hall sender.

    > WM, 283919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CAMSHAFT SENSOR (R4)

18. Remove vibration damper.

    > 137519 - Removing and installing crankshaft vibration damper (R4)  , Refer to the appropriate service information.

19. Remove chain housing cover.

    > 153319 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING CHAIN HOUSING COVER (R4)

20. Remove timing chain.

    > 153519 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING TIMING CHAIN (R4)

21. Remove chain tensioner.

    > 153619 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING CHAIN TENSIONER (R4)

22. Remove guide and tensioning rails.

23. Remove balance shafts.

24. Remove camshaft actuators.

25. Remove the cylinder head cover.

26. Remove cylinder head.

27. Disassemble cylinder head.
    1. 27.1  Remove valve lifter.

    3. 27.3  Remove valve-stem seals.

28. Remove oil pan.

29. Remove oil pump.

30. Remove oil guide housing.

31. Remove piston.

32. Disassemble pistons.
