Installing Pistons

Information 

• Always check the installation position of the connecting-rod bearing cap. 
• The use of cracked connecting rods means that the connecting-rod bearing cap only fits at one position and only on the related connecting rod. 

1. Install piston -1-  .

   1. 1.1  Remove connecting-rod bearing cap from the connecting rod.

      Installation position of bearing shell

      • Used connecting-rod bearing shells must not be interchanged. Always check installation position. 
      • Always make sure that -dimension - A- is - the same size at the left and right when inserting the connecting-rod bearing shells. 
   2. 1.2  Oil running surfaces of the connecting-rod bearing shells and cylinder wall.
   3. 1.3  Install piston -1-  and connecting rod in accordance with the marking using a commercially available piston ring tensioning strap.  Make sure that the arrow on the piston crown is facing the pulley side of the engine.
   4. 1.4  Position connecting-rod bearing cap in accordance with the marking and fit new  connecting-rod bearing cap screws -2-  .
   5. 1.5  Tighten connecting-rod bearing cap screws -2-  .

      > Initial - tightening 45 Nm (33 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90°
