Measuring Piston-Ring End Clearance

  1. Insert piston ring into the cylinder from the top to about 15 mm from the lower edge of the cylinder at a right angle to the cylinder wall. Piston-ring end clearance 

    Use a piston with no piston rings to slide it in.

  2. Measure piston-ring end clearance.

    1. 2.1  Guide a feeler gauge into the gap on the piston ring and determine the value. Piston-ring end clearance

1. compression ring 0.30-0.40 0.60
2. compression ring 0.40 - 0.50 0.70
