Joining Process

Information 

Adhesive must be free of damage. Deformed adhesive must not be used.

  1. Prepare cartridge -A. B-  .

    Cartridge

    1. 1.1 Pierce the membrane in the nozzle connection -X-  using > VAS 221 005 - cartridge opener-1-  and make the opening bigger. Remove flanged cover on end of cartridge -Y-  using > VAS 221 005 - cartridge opener-1-  .
    2. 1.2 Clean > VAS 221 005 - cartridge opener-1-  after opening an individual cartridge.
  2. Screw both cartridges -A, B-  onto mixing nozzle -1-  .

    Cartridges

    Information 

    • Adhesive cartridges must only be used with piston-driven applicator guns. 
    • In the case of piston-driven processing guns with compressed air, the pressure must be at least 4.5 bar/66 psi. 
  3. Insert mixing cartridge into the > VAS 5237 - dual-cartridge gun  .

    1. 3.1 Move pressure piston back fully.
    2. 3.2 Insert dual cartridge -A, B-  into the bonding gun -1-  .
  4. Press out adhesive components.

    Adhesive coming out

    1. 4.1 Actuate the valve -Arrow-  and allow the pressure pistons to move out slowly until both adhesive components emerge at the mixing tube.
    2. 4.2 Wipe off emerging adhesive components.
  5. Screw application nozzle -1-  onto the cartridge nozzle -2-  .

  6. Align application nozzle.

    Information 

    • In this position, the closed surfaces must be visible at the horizontal mixing nozzle from above and below and the mixing blade of the mixer insert from the sides. 
    1. 6.1 Turn the application nozzle on the mixing nozzle until the illustrated position is reached.

    Processing time

    • The processing time of the adhesive at room temperature (23°C) is 10 min. The adhesive must be applied and the component must be joined within this time. 
    • To ensure that the substance is completely mixed, apply a bead of fresh adhesive that is approx. 10-20 cm long to a piece of cardboard before using it. 
    • Also apply a bead of adhesive approx. 10 cm long to a solid surface to test it. 
    • One adhesive set contains 6 m of adhesive bead. Have several adhesive sets ready if necessary. 
  7. Mix adhesive components.

    Valve

    1. 7.1 Actuate the valve -Arrow-  and allow the pressure pistons to move out slowly until the adhesive is visible in the application tube.

    Information 

    • When applying adhesive to a vehicle window, make sure there is a gap of at least  > Required value 5 mm between - the adhesive bead and seal profile. 

    Information 

    • In addition to this information, observe the relevant job descriptions for body repairs! 
  8. Apply adhesive to component.
  9. Bond component to the body.
