Adjusting Locking Cable

Information 

Do not apply lateral forces to the selector knob pull rod as it can break off.

1. Remove switch console holder -1-  .

   1. 1.1  Release and remove switch console holder -1-  in -direction of arrow-  .
2. Remove insulating mat -1-  .

   1. 2.1  Release and disconnect cable plug -2-  .
   2. 2.2  Remove insulating mat -1-  .

   Information 

   • Loosen clamping screw for locking cable by only about 1 turn. 
   • The clamping screw is only accessible in selector-lever position "P". 
   • When the clamping screw is loosened, the selector lever must remain in position "P". 
3. Loosen clamping screw for locking cable by about 1 turn -1-  using > T40031 - socket insert a/f 5-2-  .

4. Loosen transmission support -2-  .

   Transmission support

   1. 4.1  Support transmission at transmission support -2-  using > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  .
      1. 4.1.1  Place a suitable piece of wood under the > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  and position it under the transmission support so that the screws -1 and 3-  are accessible.
   2. 4.2  Unscrew screws -1 and 3-  .
   3. 4.3  Lower transmission with transmission support by about 25 mm.
5. Adjust the locking cable.
   1. 5.1  Loosen ball socket -1-  .
   2. 5.2  The selector-lever position -2-  on the transmission must be at the rearmost position -direction of arrow-  .
   3. 5.3  Secure ball socket -1-  to selector lever -2-  .

6. Secure transmission support -2-  .

   Transmission support

   1. 6.1  Lift transmission and transmission support with > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  .
   2. 6.2  Fit and tighten screws -1 and 3-  .
      • Tightening torque 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) 
   3. 6.3  > VAS 6931 - Engine and gearbox jack  must now be removed.
7. Tighten clamping screw for locking cable -1-  using > T40031 - socket insert a/f 5-2-  .
   • Tightening torque 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)

8. Press release -3-  , actuate selector knob -2-  and move selector lever from position "P" to "D" and from position "D" to "M" and back again several times.
