Replacing Control Unit For Electric Parking Brake

The > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3. 

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if required.
  3. Select the Parking brake  control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  4. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  5. Start-up must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  6. Follow instructions and information displayed on the Tester.
  7. The Tester displays the message: Coding was completed successfully.  Press F12 to continue.
  8. The Tester displays the message: Start-up was completed successfully.  Press F12 to continue.
  9. Read out the fault memory,  correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
  10. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  11. Check the function of the electric parking brake by actuating the lever. The LED in the button may start flashing after the first function test.
    1. 11.1 If the LED in the button starts flashing after the first function test:
      1. 11.1.1 Perform a further function test. Check the function of the electric parking brake by actuating the lever.
