Installing Lower Trailing Arm

Install lower trailing arm -1- .

Lower trailing arm
1. 1.1 Position lower trailing arm -1- .
2. 1.2 Install spacer sleeve -4- .
3. 1.3 Replace screw -2- and nut -3- , but do not tighten yet.
Replace screw securing lower trailing arm to rear axle housing -4- and screw for lower trailing arm -2- together with nut -3- , but do not tighten yet.

Secure add-on parts on lower trailing arm.

Add-on parts on lower trailing arm
1. 3.1 Replace screw on connecting link for anti-roll bar -1- , but do not tighten yet.
2. 3.2 Screw in screw securing connecting link for rear angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment to lower trailing arm, but do not tighten yet.
WARNING:
Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
  → Wear personal protective gear.
  
  → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information

Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
Before tightening the lower trailing arm screws: Raise the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack with > T10149 - support ).

Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
Tighten screw -2- and counter at the nut -3- at the same time.
> Initial tightening 120 Nm

> Final tightening + 360°

Lower trailing arm
Tighten screws on lower trailing arm.
Tighten screw on lower trailing arm -2- and counter at the nut -3- at the same time.

> Initial tightening 70 Nm

> Final tightening + 180°

Lower trailing arm on rear axle housing
1. 6.1 Tighten screw securing trailing arm to rear axle housing -4- .
  > Initial tightening 70 Nm
  
  > Final tightening + 180°
Secure add-on parts on lower trailing arm.

Add-on parts on lower trailing arm
1. 7.1 Tighten screw securing connecting link to lower trailing arm -1- .
  > Initial - tightening 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)
  
  > Final tightening + 90°
2. 7.2 Tighten screw securing connecting link for rear angle sensor for headlight beam adjustment -2- to lower trailing arm.
  > Tightening torque 9 Nm
