Removing Heating/Fresh Air Unit (Completely)

WARNING: Refrigerant 
  • Danger of freezing 
    1. → Avoid contact with refrigerant.
    2. → Wear personal protective gear.
    3. → Observe the safety regulations for working on air-conditioned vehicles and handling refrigerant.
    4. → Observe the safety regulations for extraction and filling systems.
    5. → Observe the instructions for repairing air-conditioning systems and storing spare parts.

Information 

Before re-installing the component, check the O-rings on the refrigerant lines for damage and replace them if necessary.

The O-rings on the refrigerant lines must be coated with refrigerant oil.

All refrigerant lines and connections must be closed off using suitable stoppers during removal.

Stoppers for lines and connections must not be opened until shortly before installation.

  1. Detach compressor/evaporator line -1-  from the expansion valve.

    1. 1.1  Unscrew screws securing compressor/evaporator line -2-  .
    2. 1.2  Disconnect compressor/evaporator line -1-  from the expansion valve.
    3. 1.3  Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
  2. Remove air duct for the right dashboard vent -1-  .

    1. 2.1  Unclip air duct for the right dashboard vent -1-  from the heating/fresh - air unit.
    2. 2.2  Guide out air duct for right dashboard vent -1-  .
  3. Release and pull out blower regulator cable plug -1-  .

  4. Disconnect electric wire harness for dashboard in the heating/fresh-air unit area and set aside.
  5. Remove air intake tract holder -1-  .

    1. 5.1  Unscrew screw -2-  .
    2. 5.2  Remove air intake tract holder -1-  .
  6. Detach water drain hoses -1-  on the left and right from the heating/fresh-air unit.

    1. 6.1  Fold the left and right upper edge of the carpet outwards.
    2. 6.2  Unclip water drain hoses -1-  on the left and right from the heating/fresh-air unit.
  7. Remove air duct for the left dashboard vent -1-  .

    1. 7.1  Unclip air duct for the left dashboard vent -1-  from the heating/fresh-air unit.
    2. 7.2  Guide out air duct for left dashboard vent -1-  .
  8. Detach air ducts for the rear heating -1 to 3-  from the heating/fresh-air unit.

    Air ducts for rear heating

    1. 8.1  Fold the left and right upper edge of the carpet outwards.
    2. 8.2  Detach air guide ducts for rear heating -1 and 2-  from the pins on the centre tunnel.
    3. 8.3  Unclip air ducts for rear heating -1 and 2-  from the connecting piece -3-  and push slightly to one side.
    4. 8.4  Unclip and guide out connecting piece -3-  from the heating/fresh-air unit.
  9. Remove heating/fresh-air unit -2-  .

    Screws on heating/fresh-air unit (driver's side)

    1. 9.1  Fold carpet outwards at the upper edge -Arrow-  .
    2. 9.2  Unscrew screw -1-  .
    3. 9.3  Guide out heating/fresh-air unit -2-  with the help of another person.
