Checking Radial Play Of Crankshaft

Carefully clean crankshaft bearing pin.
Place Plastigage strip corresponding to the width of the bearing at the centre of the bearing pin or into the bearing shell.
Install crankshaft bearing covers.

Crankshaft
1. 3.1 Position crankshaft bearing covers.
2. 3.2 Screw in screws for crankshaft bearing covers fully by hand and tighten in the specified tightening sequence. Do not turn the crankshaft!
3. 3.3 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 10- .
  Initial tightening 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
4. 3.4 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 10- .
  Final tightening + 90°
5. 3.5 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -A - .
  Initial tightening 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
6. 3.6 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -A - .
  Final tightening + 90°
Remove crankshaft bearing covers.

Compare Plastigage strip with setpoint values shown in the table.

Crankshaft bearing dimensions:
Play	New	Wear limit
Radial play	0.017... 0.037 mm	0.15 mm
