Loosening Rear Brake Calliper

NOTE: Removal of brake calliper 
  • Paint defects on brake calliper 
    1. Proceed with care when setting back the brake pads.
    2. Protect the paintwork on the brake calliper from damage using a suitable cloth.

Information 

If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the reservoir by suction in order to prevent an overflow when the disc brake pads are pushed back.

  1. Move electric parking brake (EPB) into assembly position using the PIWIS Tester. 
    1. 1.1 Select >>Parking brake<<  in the control unit overview.
    2. 1.2 In the Maintenance/repairs  menu, select the function assembly position. 
    3. 1.3 Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  2. Release and disconnect cable plug on rpm sensor -1-  .

    Information 

    Never use power tools (impact bolter) for loosening and securing the brake calliper on the wheel bearing housing.

  3. Loosen rear brake calliper -1-  .

    Rear brake calliper

    1. 3.1 Release and disconnect cable plug -2-  .
    2. 3.2 Unscrew and replace brake calliper screws -3-  .
    3. 3.3 Remove rear brake calliper -1-  .
  4. Suspend the brake calliper -1-  in the wheel housing.

    1. 4.1 Have suitable fastening elements -2-  (e.g. tie-wraps) ready for suspending the rear brake calliper -1-  .
    2. 4.2 Attach fastening element -2-  at a suitable position in the wheel housing.
    3. 4.3 Remove rear brake calliper -1-  from the wheel bearing housing and suspend it at the relevant prepared position.

      Make sure not to damage the brake lines on the rear brake calliper -1-  .
