Changing Brake Fluid

Information 

  1. Unscrew cap on the brake fluid reservoir, connect > VAS 6860 - Brake filling and bleeding device  with suitable adapter and switch it on.
  2. Set the bleeding pressure to 2.0 bar.

    Information 

    • To check the escaping brake fluid, ensure absolute cleanliness and make sure there are no air bubbles. 
    • A transparent hose and a collecting bottle must be used to determine the amount of brake fluid used. 
  3. Change the brake fluid at the brake callipers in the following sequence: rear right/rear left/front right/front left.
    1. 3.1 Open each bleeder screw in the specified sequence for as long as required until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.

      Then close the bleeder screw again.

    2. 3.2 Tighten each bleeder screw.

      Front bleeder screws: 

      > Tightening - torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.) 

      Rear bleeder screws: 

      > Tightening - torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) 

  4. Pull off breather hose.
  5. Turn off > VAS 6860 - Brake filling and bleeding device  and unscrew the adapter on the reservoir.
  6. The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be between the MIN and MAX markings -Arrow-  after changing the brake fluid.

    Correct the brake fluid level if necessary.

  7. Close the cap on the reservoir tightly.
  8. Start the engine and create a vacuum in the brake booster. Check brake pedal travel and pedal feel, if necessary, bleed the brake system.
