Checking Brake System After Bleeding

Information 

• If the pedal travel is too long or the pedal feels too soft, the following procedure must be carried out. 
• The help of another person is required. 
• This procedure must also be carried out if the brake hydraulic system was largely empty. 

Information 

• The brake fluid level must not exceed the MAX marking. 
• Check brake fluid quality. Only use new BASF Hydraulan 404 brake fluid. 
• Brake fluid can be ordered using the Porsche Electronic Parts Information (PET). 

1. Unscrew cap on the brake fluid reservoir, connect > VAS 6860 - Brake filling and bleeding device  with adapter and switch it on.
2. Set the bleeding pressure to 2.0 bar.

   Information 

   • To check the escaping brake fluid, ensure absolute cleanliness and make sure there are no air bubbles. 
   • A transparent hose and a collecting bottle must be used to determine the amount of brake fluid used. 

   Information 

   • After pressing the pedal down, the pedal must be held for 2-3 seconds and then slowly released. 
   • After the fifth time pressing the pedal, the brake pedal must be held down fully while closing the bleeder valve. 
3. Open the rear right bleeder screw.

   The help of another person is required to press the brake pedal. 

   1. 3.1 Press the brake pedal fully 5 times and tap the brake calliper gently several times using a rubber hammer.
   2. 3.2 Repeat this procedure in the sequence rear left/front right/front left.
   3. 3.3 Tighten rear bleeder screw.

      > Tightening - torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) 

   4. 3.4 Tighten front bleeder screw.

      > Tightening - torque 14 Nm (10.5 ftlb.) 

4. Pull off breather hose.
5. Turn off > VAS 6860 - Brake filling and bleeding device  and unscrew the adapter on the reservoir.
6. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.

   Brake fluid level

   1. 6.1 The fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX markings -Arrow-  . Correct the brake fluid level, if necessary.
7. Close the cap on the reservoir tightly.
8. Start the engine and create a vacuum in the brake booster. Check brake-pedal travel and pedal feel.
