Removing Coil Spring
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING:
Preloaded or pressurised components
- Risk of squashing or bruising
- → Do not reach into the danger area.
- → Relieve the tension on components before starting work.
- → Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
Information
- Coil springs must not be pressed together as far as the block.
- The surface of the coil spring must not be damaged (danger of corrosion).
- Never use solvents to clean the coil springs.
Information
The spreader device VAS 6907/8/VAS 6274/12-4 makes it easier to remove and install coil springs.
When the spreader device is used, it prevents the axle from moving upwards when tensioning the coil spring.
- Insert spreader device VAS 6907/8/VAS 6274/12-4 -1-
from the tool sets specified above.
Using spreader device VAS 6907/8
- 1.1 Fit spreader device -1- between the upper trailing arm -2- and body -3- .
- 1.2 Adjust the height of the spreader device -1- until it is fitted securely.
- Insert pressure plate with pivot bearing VAS 6907/2/VAS 6274/12-1
-1- as far down as possible into the coil spring -2-
from the outside and press the stone guard aside slightly if necessary.
Pressure plate at the bottom
- Pressure plate with locking mechanism VAS 6907/1/VAS 6274/12-2 -1-
must be inserted as far up as possible in the coil spring from the outside -2-
.
Pressure plate at the top
- Insert tensioning device.
Locking lever
- 4.1 Insert plunger VAS 6907/4/VAS 6274/12-6 or 12-7 with T-bar wrench VAS 4907/6 into the pressure plate with locking mechanism VAS 6907/1/VAS 6274/12-2.
- 4.2 Press locking lever in -Arrow direction- to secure the piston.
- Prepare pressure plates -1 and 2-
.
Twist lock
- 5.1 Turn both pressure plates -1 and 2- as far as required in the coil spring so that there are at least 3 windings between them.
- 5.2 Screw twist locks of both pressure plates -1 and 2- together.
- Tension coil spring -1-
.
Tools on coil spring
- 6.1 Spindle VAS 6907/3 -2- must always be greased at the front before use with a thin coating of the grease that comes with the > VAS 6907 - spring tensioning system .
- 6.2 Screw the spindle VAS 6907/3 -2- using socket wrench VAS 6907/5 -4- into the piston VAS 6907/4/VAS 6274/12-6 or 12-7 -3-.
- 6.3 Counter using VAS 6907/7 holding wrench.
- 6.4 Pre-tension pressure plates slightly using spindle VAS 6907/3 -2- and check that the coil spring is fitted correctly -1- in the pressure plates.
- Remove coil spring -1-
.
Coil spring
- 7.1 Tension coil spring -1- using socket wrench VAS 6907/5 until the stone guard and upper and lower spring plates can be removed.
- 7.2 Guide out coil spring -1- by pulling it forward at an angle at the bottom -Arrow- .
- 7.3 Turn the spindle VAS 6907/3 back slightly if necessary so that it ends flush with the end of the coil spring -1- . Never unscrew the spindle VAS 6907/3 fully.
- Insert pre-tensioned coil spring -1-
into hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 -2-.
Hydraulic clamping device
- 8.1 Insert coil spring -1- into the hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 -2- .
- 8.2 Fit lower end of spring in the spring compressing system at the relevant marking.
L: left coil spring
R: right coil spring
- Relieve tension on coil spring in hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9
.
- 9.1 Hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 must be tensioned using the > VAS 6179 - foot pump until the tension on the pressure plates is relieved.
- 9.2 Unscrew spindle VAS 6907/3 using socket wrench VAS 6907/5 .
- 9.3 Unscrew screws on twist locks and remove pressure plates.
- 9.4 Relieve tension on the coil spring again and remove it from hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 .
