Installing Coil Spring
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Information
When installing the coil spring, make sure that the sticker -1- on the coil spring is facing downwards.
Installation position of coil spring
Information
The spreader device VAS 6907/8/VAS 6274/12-4 makes it easier to remove and install coil springs.
When the spreader device is used, it prevents the axle from moving upwards when tensioning the coil spring.
Information
Coil springs must be replaced only in pairs.
- Insert coil spring -1-
into the hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 -2-
.
Hydraulic clamping device
- 1.1 Insert spring into hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 -2- .
- 1.2 Fit lower end of spring in the spring compressing system at the relevant marking.
L: left coil spring
R: right coil spring
- Pre-tension the coil spring in hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 -9-
.
- 2.1 Hydraulic tensioning device VAS 6907/9 as required using the > VAS 6179 - foot pump until the pressure plates -1 and 2- can be inserted with a gap of 3 windings between them.
- 2.2 Insert pressure plate with locking mechanism VAS 6907/1/VAS 6274/12-2 -1- and pressure plate with pivot bearing VAS 6907/2/VAS 6274/12-1 -2- into the coil spring in such a way that three windings are enclosed.
- 2.3 Insert piston VAS 6907/4/VAS 6274/12-6 or 12-7 -4- into the pressure plate with latch -1- . Use T-bar wrench VAS6907/6 as an aid if necessary.
- 2.4 Press locking lever in to secure the piston -4- .
- 2.5 Insert spindle VAS 6907/3 -3-.
- 2.6 Screw twist locks of both pressure plates -1 and 2- together.
- 2.7 Tension coil spring using socket wrench VAS6907/5 .
- 2.8 Relieve tension on the hydraulic clamping device VAS6907/9 and remove coil spring with clamping device.
Tension the coil spring using pressure plates
Information
The spindle must only protrude so far over the coil spring that the upper spring plate can still be fitted fully on the coil spring.
- Insert coil spring -1-
.
Coil spring
- 3.1 Insert coil spring -1- into the mountings.
- Insert lower spring plate -1-
with pin -A-
into bore -B-
on the wheel bearing housing -2-
.
Spring plates
- Screw coil spring -1-
as far as it will go into the lower spring plate.
Coil spring
- Remove tensioning device.
- 6.1 Slowly relieve tension on the tensioning device using socket wrench VAS 6907/5 and unscrew it.
- 6.2 Unscrew screws on twist lock and remove pressure plates.
- 6.3 Tensioning device must now be removed from the vehicle.
- Remove spreader device VAS 6907/8/VAS 6274/12-4 .
