Installing Wheel Bearing Housing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
    1. 1.1 Replace screw and nut securing lower trailing arm to wheel bearing housing. -2 and 3- 
    2. 1.2 Replace screw and nut securing upper control arm to wheel bearing housing. -4 and 5- 
    3. 1.3 Replace screw on shock absorber. -2- 
      WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
      • Risk of crushing 
      • Risk of damage to components 
        1. → Wear personal protective gear.
        2. → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

      Information 

      Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

    4. 1.4 Before tightening the screws: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - transmission and engine jack).

    5. 1.5 Unscrew screw securing lower trailing arm to wheel bearing housing -2-  and counter at the nut -3-  at the same time.

      > Initial tightening 120 Nm 

      > Final tightening + 360°

    6. 1.6 Align eccentric adjuster -3-  according to the markings made during removal.

      Tighten screw and nut securing upper control arm to wheel bearing housing -4 and 5-  , but do not turn the eccentric adjuster. -3- 

      > Tightening torque 95 Nm

    7. 1.7 Replace screw on shock absorber. -2- 

      Tighten screw on shock absorber. -2- 

      > Initial tightening 150 Nm 

      > Final tightening + 180°

    8. 1.8 Tighten screw steering tie rod to wheel bearing housing. -2- 

      > Initial tightening 90 Nm 

      > Final tightening + 90°

    9. 1.9 Tighten screw on holder. -2- 

      > Tightening torque 10 Nm

    10. 1.10 Tighten screws on brake cover panel. -2- 

      > Tightening - torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

    11. 1.11 Replace screw on drive shaft and screw in new screw for drive shaft by hand.
