Disassembling Rear Drive Shaft

Always replace circlip after removal.

- Risk of squashing or crushing
- → Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
Information
- The joint on the transmission side and the joint pin on the wheel side of the rear axle can be replaced.
- The entire drive shaft must be replaced if the profile shaft is defective.
- Remove circlip (on transmission side) using > VAS 5493 - circlip pliers.
- Mark position of bellows on the transmission side and remove clamps.
Replace clamps.
- Loosen bellows on the transmission side from the inner joint and push it back.
Removing bellows (on transmission side)
- Clamp drive shaft using aluminium protective jaws. Fit an aluminium mandrel on the ball hub (star-shaped inner ring) -Arrow-
and remove the joint pin (inner joint) by hitting it several times with a hammer.
Removing inner joint (on transmission side)
- Mark position of bellows on the wheel side and remove clamps.
- Remove bellows on the transmission side and wheel side from the profile shaft.
- 6.1 Check bellows for cracks and replace it if necessary.
- 6.2 Replace clamps.
- Clamp the drive shaft using aluminium protective jaws. Fit an aluminium mandrel on the ball hub (star-shaped inner ring) -Arrow- and remove the joint pin (outer joint) by hitting it several times with a hammer.
