Installing Rear Tie Rod

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:

WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly

Risk of crushing
Risk of damage to components
1. → Wear personal protective gear.
2. → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

Information

Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.

1.1 Before tightening the screws on the rear tie rod: Lift the wheel suspension to zero position using lifting equipment (e.g. > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack ).

Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)

1.2 Replace screw securing rear tie rod to wheel bearing housing.
1.3 Tighten screw securing rear tie rod to wheel bearing housing.
> Initial tightening 90 Nm

> Final tightening + 90°
1.4 Align eccentric adjuster according to the markings made during removal.
1.5 Replace screw and nut securing rear tie rod to rear axle housing.
1.6 Tighten screw and nut securing rear tie rod to rear axle housing, but do not turn the eccentric adjuster.
> Tightening torque 95 Nm
