Disassembling Front Spring Strut
- Risk of squashing or bruising
→ Do not reach into the danger area.
→ Relieve tension on components before starting work.
→ Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:
- Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 20, 000 mls (30, 000 km) or 3 years.
- If the mileage is > 20, 000 miles (30, 000 km) or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs.

- Observe the correct allocation (engine variant/chassis variant) when installing new coil springs and/or shock absorbers.
- Springs must only be replaced in pairs.
- When replacing springs, the spring plates must also be replaced.

The front spring strut is disassembled and assembled using the tool > VAS 6908 - Stationary Spring Compressor .
Before inserting the spring strut, the tool > VAS 6908 - Stationary Spring Compressor must be set up and adjusted in accordance with the operating instructions provided by the manufacturer.

- Applies only to conventional spring strut:
Align chamfer of the spring strut mount -1- so that it is concentric with respect to the mounting saddle -2- .

Applies only to PASM spring strut:
Insert threaded bolts -1- of the spring strut into the bores -2- on the mounting saddle.

- Pre-tension spring strut using drive nut -1-
until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.

- Unscrew nut on piston rod > Nut on piston rod (illustration by way of example)
. Use > 3353 - socket-wrench insert
on PASM spring struts.

- Relieve tension on > VAS 6908 - stationary spring tensioning device completely using the drive nut and remove all components from the piston rod.
