Installing Lower Trailing Arm

WARNING:
Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
- 1.1 Replace and fit screws for lower trailing arm.
- 1.2 Replace and screw on nuts for lower trailing arm.
- 1.3 Replace and screw on nut securing lower trailing arm to lower trailing arm joint.
- 1.4 Replace and screw on nut securing tie-rod ball to wheel bearing housing.
- 1.5 Before tightening the lower trailing arm screws: Lift wheel suspension to zero position using >
VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack

Zero position (shown on rear axle as an example)
- 1.6 Tighten new
nut -2-
.
> Tightening - torque 140 Nm (104 ftlb.)
Lower trailing arm on wheel bearing housing
- 1.7 Tighten new
nut -3-
.
> Tightening - torque 100 Nm (74 ftlb.)
Tie-rod ball on wheel bearing housing
- 1.8 Tighten new
screw -4-
.
> Initial tightening 70 Nm
> Final tightening + 180°
- 1.9 Tighten new
screw -3-
.
> Initial - tightening 90 Nm (67 ftlb.)
> Final tightening + 90°
Lower trailing arm
- 1.10 Tighten nut -1-
.
> Tightening torque 9 Nm
