Installing Front Wheel Bearing

Wheel bearing unit

• The wheel bearing has a magnetised multipole seal, which acts as a pulse sender for the wheel speed sensor. 
• The multipole seal -1- must - always face upwards when the wheel bearing is set down (this does not apply when pressing the wheel hub into the wheel bearing). 
• The multipole seal must not be damaged and must not come into contact with magnetic objects (for example, magnetised screwdriver, magnet). 

1. Press wheel hub into the wheel bearing.

   Fitting wheel hub in wheel bearing

   1. Press tool
   2. > VW402 - Thrust plate 
   3. Wheel hub
   4. Wheel bearing
   5. > VW401 - Thrust plate 
   1. 1.1 Fit special tools -1, 2 and 5-  as shown in > Fitting wheel hub in wheel bearing  .
   2. 1.2 Press wheel hub -3-  into wheel bearing -4-  .
2. Install wheel bearing unit -1-  .

   Wheel bearing unit

   1. 2.1 Insert wheel bearing unit -1-  into the wheel bearing housing.
   2. 2.2 Replace screws on wheel bearing unit -2-  .
   3. 2.3 Screw in new  screws on wheel bearing unit -2-  and tighten in diagonally opposite sequence.

      > Initial - tightening 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90°
