Loosening Main Wire Harness In Engine Compartment At The Left

NOTIFICATION 

Incorrect handling of main wire harness 

• Risk of damage to lines 

  → The main wire harness contains all airbag lines, antenna lines and optical waveguides.

  → The main wire harness must not be separated and is always replaced as a complete wire harness when carrying out extensive repairs.

  → If individual lines are damaged, shut off these lines and install new lines. Lay the new lines along the main wire harness and secure them to the main wire harness.

Information 

Always comply with the regulations for handling ESD-sensitive components!

• Always wear approved work clothes and shoes when carrying out assembly work. 
• Do not remove new parts from ESD (electrostatic discharge) protective packaging until shortly before installation. 
• Do not touch electric pins and plug contacts. 

1. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on front left airbag sensor.

   > 695119 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIRBAG SENSOR

2. Disconnect electric plug connections under the left headlight.

   1. 2.1 Release, disconnect and unclip electric plug connections -1-  .
   2. 2.2 Unclip, release and pull off antenna lines -2-  .
3. Unscrew fastening nut -1-  and remove ground lines from the ground point in the front left wheel housing.

4. Only for vehicles with air suspension: 

   Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the front left air-spring strut.

   > 433019 - REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT AIR-SPRING STRUT

5. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the front left brake pad wear contact.

   > 463656 - REPLACING FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS

6. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the front left speed sensor.

   > 451155 - Replacing front speed sensor 

7. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the front left level sensor, if fitted.

8. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the engine coolant level sensor.

   Sensor for body

   1. 9.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  on sensor for body.
10. Disconnect electric plug connection -1-  for hydraulic unit and ground line.

    1. 10.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on hydraulic unit.
    2. 10.2 Unscrew fastening nut -2-  and remove ground lines from the ground point on the front left longitudinal member.
11. Release and disconnect electric plug connections in the left cowl panel.

    1. 11.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the wiper motor.
    2. 11.2 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  on the brake fluid level sensor.
    3. 11.3 Unscrew fastening nut -3-  and remove ground lines from the ground point on the left cowl panel.
12. Loosen holder -1-  for electric lines from the housing for the fuse box on the cowl panel -Arrows-  .

13. Loosen grommet -1-  on the left out of the body.

    1. 13.1 Unhook locking mechanisms for the inner ring -2-  (-Arrows-  ).
    2. 13.2 Pull inner ring out of the outer ring -3-  .
    3. 13.3 Pull grommet -1-  on the left out of the body into the passenger compartment.
14. Unclip main wire harness in engine compartment at the left from the holders.
15. Carefully guide main wire harness in engine compartment at the left into the passenger compartment.
