Replacing Gateway Control Unit

NOTIFICATION

Voltage drop

Irreparable damage to control unit
Damage to control unit
Fault entries in the control unit
Control unit programming/coding is aborted
Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
1. → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
2. → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
3. → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester.

Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
In the overview, press F7 to select the Additional menu. Press F12 to continue.
The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
Component protection start-up must now be selected. Follow instructions and procedure.
Enter the PPN user name and password. Press F12 to continue.
Allow the Tester to run the procedure.
Select Gateway (master) component protection in order to teach it. Press F12 to continue.
Allow the Tester to run the procedure.
The Tester displays the message: Component protection taught. Press F12 to continue.
Select the Gateway control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue.
Coding/programming must be selected.
Automatic coding must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
The Tester displays the message: Coding successful.
Maintenance/repairs must now be selected.
Battery replacement must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
Read and follow the instructions on the Tester. Enter parameters for the vehicle battery. Press F8 to confirm. Press F12 to continue.
Read out the fault memory. If necessary, work through existing faults and delete them.
Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
